Regardless of instructions I find washing ski stuff always ruins the waterproofing.

So never.

I find that washing anything eventually ruins it.

This is a tangent, I know, but does anybody know how often you're supposed to wash clothes? When necessary. Clothing like jeans and sweaters not only don't need to be washed after each wear, it's actually recommended that you do not.

Wash all my jackets once each season and my ski pants once each season , re waterproof then put em away for next season

All underlayers washed as needed , those at the base level each time .
BTW : Have NEVER had a problem re -applying effective waterproofing

I think the point is that is pretty lame that you buy a 500 dollar ski jacket or whatever it costs, then you have to re waterproof it after you wash it.

Gore-tex stuff actually works better when it's clean. Something about how water uses dirt to wick through when normally the pores in the fabric are too small for the droplets to pass. I think there's videos on their site that explain it. Even so, I only wash my stuff about once a season unless it starts to smell. I use the Nixwax stuff and have had good results.

That's gross. I dont care what some jean company says, if you dont wash your jeans somewhat regularly, they're going to have plenty of bacteria and nastiness on them after 3 or 4 wears.
