Peter Sagan is already in the top echelon of cycling and will be one of the best cyclists of his generation. (Barring injury). He had an incredible year last year and is at the top of the game again. Although, Spartacus dropped him in the last bit of the Tour de Flanders, where that pic was taken. Also, Sagan, at 23, is still just a kid....as evidenced by his pour judgment on the podium.

He released a video apology. I was a 23 year old once, "just a kid" as it is said, but I never grabbed a random girl's butt in public. That young lady probably didn't appreciate it (though perhaps she'll receive some positive benefit from having her picture splashed around the internet). It is harassment and it shouldn't be glorified (looking at you Scotty!). That said, this guy is incredibly fun to watch and I'll forgive his poor judgment this once and keep cheering for him, pending he keeps his hands to himself going forward. If any of us working professionals had that same type of "poor judgement" we'd be looking for a new job.

Agreed that it's harassment and in our real working lives, we'd probably be sent packing. On the other hand, there's kind of a double standard going on here. These attractive women are paraded out on stage like pieces of meat to grope the winner of the race. What's the point?

Not making excuses for the dude's actions, but when these girls are paraded out like pieces of meat, does it surprise people that occasionally they're going to get treated like pieces of meat by athletes who are on the immature side and have inflated egos?

The other guy looks like he doesn't appreciate the kiss from her.

Apparently, Cancellara has only been home with his wife and young kids for 5 days in the last 6 months. Training and racing after coming back from a bad injury last year. Plus he just finished a 159 mile one day race and didn't even shower yet! I'd be a little hesitant to kiss a hot model too smelling like that! Lol

Is beautiful-women-kissing-the-winner a European thing? Or a bicycling thing? Or both?

Not going to dispute that podium girls is a relic from a different age that has somehow been kept going strong as a tradition. Someone else pointed out that Euro has different sensibilities than the USA but USA races also feature podium girls. I wouldn't call it a double standard. Models should be able to do their job without unwanted groping. Just because it is their job to look pretty and plant a peck on a check doesn't mean that they are inviting sexual harassment. But I will agree that podium girls are kinda an oddity in modern sport and really not needed.

who cares? if she didn't like it, she could have just smacked him or told him to f off. seems like you can't have any fun without having to apologize for it later.

bvibert, haha on the pic! hopefully it doesn't offend anyone. maybe you should issue an apology now, just in case.

I would say in many cases they (the girls) embrace it. They love the attention. As a woman, I appreciate the fact that men out there recognize the oversexualization of some things, and condemn it, however, remember there are many women out there who love it - they love being the center of attention. There's a reason it's still so prevalent.
