Most expensive ski homes

Zillow posted an article with the highest priced homes for sale in each state. A couple would make decent ski homes for one of us here.

Vermont's most expensive listing is in Stowe:

New Hampshire's is convenient to Gunstock:

Maine's listing is not far from the Camden Snow Bowl. But you'll need to hop on your private yacht to get there:

Utah's is in Park City:

Colorado's is in Telluride. I've always found the approach to be bumpy in my private Gulstream jet, so I was surprised at this:

Montana's is in the same town as the Whitefish Mountain Resort:

Just looked quick at the NH one. $49M and the lamest possible decor. Good lord.

That was my thought too. In fact same is true with several of them. Money apparently can't buy good taste.

Beat me to it!

I could live with the one in Stowe, but if I have that kind of money I might not be skiing Stowe that often ...

And you have to slum it by living in Alton. If I'm paying $49M, I at least want a Wolfeboro zip. ;)

The guy who built it is Bob Bahre, the guy who owned New Hampshire Motorspeedway before he sold it a few years back. It used to be the location of an old Boy Scout Camp that occupied the whole peninsula and it has great views up into Wolfeboro Bay, out across the Winnipesaukee with views of Mount Washington on a clear day and South towards the mouth of Alton Bay.

DHS is right about the Wolfeboro zip code ;)

For a good chunk of my life, my grandparents owned a place about 2 coves to the Wolfeboro side of this property and I've spent many an hour in a boat fishing and just cruising by this property over the years, both when it was a scout camp and then once Mr. Bahre built it. It literally looks more like a hotel in size from the water than a private home!

I don't wanna hear about what the rich are doing
I don't wanna go to where the rich are going
They think they're so clever, they think they're so right
But the truth is only known by guttersnipes

Is this a quote? From a song or something?

That's a great point. If you're an avid skier and money is no object, WTH would you buy that?

Even if I had Bill Gates money, I'd still have a ski place in New England and it would likely be in Stowe. New England is home and I wouldn't want to get on a plane every time I wanted to go skiing. There's also all of my friends and family in New England whom I'd want to entertain for a ski weekend or just a visit to the mountains for a non-skier. Easy for friends and family to coordinate and head up to Stowe for a weekend. Getting on a plane to Montana for the weekend? Not so much.

I'd for sure chase a few storm systems out west or in Europe each winter and likely ski once a summer in South America, but I'd still be skiing in New England more than anywhere else.

To spend even more than 200K on a home, it should not look like a place that was decorated by Donald Trump and my grandmother.

The NH one is the owner of Loudon Raceway as far as I know.

Mr Bahre, who built New Hampshire Motor speedway sold the track to Burton Smith and International Motor Speedway Corp a few years ago. (I've been a NASCAR season ticket holder at Loudon since the Black Friday make up race in 2001 - the original date for that race was to be September 16th, which was 5 days after 9-11 and it was post poned due to the attacks)

I stopped playing the mental masturbation game of what I would buy/wear/have if I were rich, many many years ago. I just find it amusing and curious that people torture themselves with these fantasies. But don't let me ruin your circle jerk. Have at it, boys!

That's cool, it's good to be an independent thinker. Even if you do need to use somebody else's words to do it....
