Resort:
Gunstock, Gilford NH

Conditions:
Powder, bumps, chopped powder

Report: So where do I begin... I left the house this morning at 7am, after digging out in Acton to find the roads clear all the way up. By the time I got to Cherry Valley Road where Gunstock is, I found a back up from the main entrance to the Gunstock Inn - a 2 mile backup! I ended up rolling the dice and ducked into the Alpine Ridge Ski Area lot, where they were beginning to move more cars to. In the years I have skied gunstock, I never have seen it this busy - nearly 3000 visitors today alone, from what I heard.

There was so much traffic on the hill, that all the trails were bumped up, which is unheard of. Trigger, Recoil, Flint Lock all had bumps off the top. Ended up only doing a few runs as the lift lines were too much to deal with. Every lift had a line, so there was more people watching and beer drinking than actual skiing today. Glad to see the hill recover nicely and so many people there.

Most trails at Sunapee looked like that as well, not really bumps but crud. Good soft snow to play in.

Did you have to wait in the ticket line for 40 minutes like I did a couple weeks ago? Total shit show and I have no intention to go there again. Had a free pass won at the Boston Ski Show though. Looks like some fun tree skiing in the "ravine" if they get enough snow though.

Was that on New Years Day by chance? Their advance ticket sales indicated that it wouldn’t be busy. Historical data also implied that. They got caught flat footed, they will admit. I was taking pics of the line from the lift.

It was the day after January 2nd. Not quite as long as that line, but almost. Extremely slow moving line (not that impatience ever speeds things up anyway) and there are probably another 30 people waiting inside the building that you can't see.
