Stowe report January 19th, 20th & 21st.

From MRG on Saturday we made our way up to Stowe as the storm came in which lasted through most of Sunday. We planned on going to Jay Peak Sunday but the weather was so good at Stowe we stayed put, boy am I glad we did. The mountain at one point was about 95% open and I finally got a chance to ski Goat for the first time top to bottom. I've ski the middle part of Goat many times but Upper Goat is not open most of the time due to thin coverage.

It's a good run, not as challenging as Paradise but close. To be honest I was more concerned about getting run into by the people behind me. It's a narrow line down Upper Goat as you can see in the first two pictures. The majority stay to the skiers left of the trail and edge their way down. The skiers in front of me were moving way to slow so I had to jump over to the rocky skiers right of the trail as I thought it was safer than potentially getting taken out by a falling snowboarder behind me. Aside from Goat I mostly skied the rest of the Sunday with my family, that last picture is of my son in the Christie Glades, the conditions were awesome!

Monday and Tuesday were really good pack powder conditions with around 90% of the mountain open each day. Aside from taking my son down Liftline and National for his first time I skied primarily all of Stowe's outstanding side country the last two days. It ended up as an incredible trip, we totally lucked out with all of the last minute snow!

My first side country run was down Tomba's, at the very end of the run is mandatory air which are shown in pictures 2 and 3. Next I did the Kitchen Wall in pictures 4 and 5 which was what I thought the most fun trail at Stowe. I loved the traverse over then drop in to the woods.....

After I came out of the Kitchen Wall I traversed over to the Halzeton trail shown in the first two pictures which was a looong winding tight trail through the woods. I was exhausted finishing that run, it was the only side country trail that I didn't do again!

Next I headed over to Angel Food where the snow was very deep and heavy. I tried to stay close to the inbounds trail on this one as I didn't want to get to the point where I had to hike back to the resort. It was pretty good but the snow was too deep for the skis I had on.....

After the Kitchen Wall my favorite side country trail was the Riverbed, it's hard to spot but what an awesome trail shown in the first 3 pictures. There were a couple of areas in there that were tricky to get around. I did this run a number of times. Lastly I skied the Goat Woods a bunch of times as well which are easy to spot, the snow was exceptional in there! I hope you enjoyed the report.

Tombas is a bit of a rush huh?

I think you said in the other report this being your first time skiing Goat... was this your first time hitting Tombas, Kitchen Wall & Angel Food all in one trip?

Yep, I did the Riverbed and Hazelton trails too. The Kitchen Wall and Riverbed were my favorite trails. I have skied Goat a number of times, it was my first time skiing Upper Goat this trip.
