Update: We will reopen with reduced operations at 1:00pm. Tuckerbrook Quad, Mittersill Double, Eagle Cliff Triple, and Zoomer Triple will be open.

Was just about to head over for a few laps. Guess i am parking at mittersill.

Something I have noticed as well.

Example: High Lonesome at Winter Park has been down for a while with no word what the problem is.

Official Statement:
On Wednesday February 5th, 2025 at approximately 10:13 a.m., a bolt affixed to the power take-off (PTO) shaft failed on the Peabody Express Quad lift. A rope evacuation was performed by Cannon Mountain Ski Patrol and with the assistance of additional mountain operations personnel onsite. All sixty-four (64) passengers were safely evacuated by 12:23 p.m.
The Peabody Express Quad will remain closed for the day. There will be reduced operations for the remainder of the day, with service available at the Mittersill Double, Tuckerbrook, Eagle Cliff and Zoomer lifts.
While all chairlifts and equipment at Cannon undergo regular inspection and testing, mechanical issues can occasionally occur. All guests at the mountain were offered the option of a refund or a credit for a future visit, in addition to complimentary hospitality at the base area.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. We also want to recognize the efficiency, skill, and dedication of our staff, whose priority remains the safety and experience of our valued guests.

Not sure how I feel about snowmaking on Paulie's. Almost feel it would be nice to leave one Front 5 trail all natural. I suppose it's okay as there's natural to the skiers right side of most of them and Zoomer lift line, but Paulie's was skiing amazing on natural when I was there a couple of weeks ago. I think if I were a Cannon regular I'd prefer they spend that money towards resurfacing problem areas and trails. Like say frequent resurfacing of Upper Cannon instead. Obviously Rock Garden and the links too.

Wonder if L Hardscrable and the turnpike area will get any snowmaking ?

Only Upper Paulies is seeing snowmaking. Pipe is still not repaired from last on the lower section below the cat track. Avy has guns on it again. Lower turnpike will the last trail to see guns. Lower hard will not.

While I tend to prefer natural snow like the rest of us, this winter is shaping up to be a rare event with little to no warm ups / thaws. We almost never see the ability for snowmaking crews to lay down a base that has virtually the entire mountain skiing well into April . That isn't unique to Cannon, Jay cranked up snowmaking on JFK for the first time in a decade a week or so ago also.

If you are a glass half empty person, you could posit it might never happen again on the East Coast. Glass half full would say take advantage of the window and lay it down deep on as much terrain as possible and have a season for the ages. I'm into mountains taking advantage of the latter since the conditions allow, and no matter how you look at it, it doesn't happen often.

Not sure how Cannon operates (owned compressors, budgets, staffing capabilities), but most crews are going to be wrapping up snowmaking here after Presidents week due to budget or necessity given the conditions, so I doubt saving the resources for later makes sense realistically.
