That surprises me. I was there Saturday and spent the morning on Mitrersill doing a GS clinic. Peabody was down all day. I lapped Zoomer for a couple hours after lunch because I didn't feel like dealing with the Tram to get up to Cannonball. Apparently the Tram line wasn't so bad, but the Front Five were all so great, I was content just skiing those trails. Didn't really seem to me that they had that deep of natural base, but perhaps they've either gotten more natural than I would have expected since Saturday or they are opening DJs with much lower tide than normal.

Peabody came back online early afternoon Saturday and felt faster than ever but maybe it was perception after riding mittersill all day? Wait for tram was not terrible few times I rode it Saturday, do not recollect waiting more than one car.

Lapped candy land / idiots a few times and agree natural down low is still bony, bottomed out frequently. May be a different story if thursday storm hits.

Guess I missed Peabody opening back up. I split at 2, but must not have been paying attention as I went by on my way to the lot. I met up with a few friends on Zoomer and they also had the same experience with the Tram. I actually looked it up last night and was surprised the Tram capacity was 1500+ per hour. That's not great, but not terrible. I was thinking when I arrived and Peabody was down that these are the days a gondola would be so much better than the Tram.

Little disappointing they didn't have Taft training slope groomed out or the T Bar running. That would have made for a better experience for our training, but I was glad they still found a way to host.

My daughter was training SL in the lane next to you on Saturday, agree on the negative impact of training off the double.

They blew snow on the upper t bar line all week to fix the tower four issue and wanted to let the whales drain before pushing out. The club has lofty goals for snowmaking on Taft and barons but tower four needs to be fixed first.

My armchair lift design says depression or even a horizontal sheave would be a quick and cheaper fix than more snowmaking but what do I know?

Big time warm up in town, storm started ugly but just turned to heavy wet flakes. Hopefully the mountain avoided the clear precip.

When did Cannon rename the stretch between the end of Spookie and the top of Eagle Cliff "Rock Garden"? That used to be part of Lower Cannon; I assume that's so it can be a blue instead of a green like the rest of Lower Cannon. Means the "Cannon" trail has a sizeable gap in it, but I suppose one shouldn't expect consistent trail naming from an area where Middle Hardscrabble and Lower Hardscrabble parallel each other.
And Paulie's Folly Extension is now just "Extension", which I guess is less confusing, but also boring.

They have blown that part of the mountain a couple of times. Pretty much the whole front side is manmade. Yea, Rock Garden was the steep part of the area above. It is always wind scoured and rocky. When they do get snow to stick there, it's turns to ice until late season.

If Cannon was a private ski area they could not get away with the safety and environmental record they have.

It's good to be the state. If I had to only ski at one area. Yep

Stopped in Peabody to use bathroom a week or two back, there was a large crowd staring at paper maps and talking about taking a run off Peabody, one of them said "I am not skiing a rock garden". We all know the type of group, rental equipment with clothes more suited for planet fitness in Boston than Cannon in January.

If the name 'rock garden' has the effect of keeping some of the snowplow S turn crowd on tuckerbrook, and off middle cannon, it was a brilliant move.

I've always felt that if Cannon could somehow work a trail in-between DJs and Extension down from Bypass to Avalanche, it could help take the pressure off Extension and Rock Garden. Not sure how feasible it would be as it's pretty steep in there with lots of ledge and there's also probably some off map lines in there you'd lose.

The only thing I don't like about Cannon is that middle area of the mountain. I find myself only wanting to ski either Cannonball, Zoomer or Mitrersill chairs while I'm there.

Rock garden can be litter zone when busy. A alternative from the peabody down that sometimes works for me is lower hardscrabble, turnpike blue or red ball to the bottom and is usually not busy. Flat run out on turnpike bottom can get boring though . Wonder if they will make any snow in this area this year ? Lower hardscrabble can stay firm and decent especially when warm spring days hit if enough snow natural or MM happens.

Way back when they were first planning the expansion that led to the replacement of the old Peabody and Gremlin chairs, there was a plan to put in a trail from Bypass to the top of the Banshee area. That would have been ridiculously steep and probably impossible to keep snow on.

Yeah, whole mountain is closed. I just saw a FB video of an active rope evac. Must have closed the mountain to free up all patrol for the evac. It's on my short list for Friday, maybe the tram will run?
