I've ridden tunnel ridge. Loved it both up and down but yeah I can totally imagine it being a blast going up with an e-bike.
And Enduro sessions at Highland... oh man THAT is the way to do it. Honestly I think e-bike Enduro renders obsolete the need for an existing lift for a bike park.

Do you feel the same about skiing? That those who are healthy should skin up vs take a lift? That's a pretty similar argument. Keep in mind, some people might achieve their fitness goals doing other things and don't need / use the bike for that like you do.

Outside of a $50 3 speed beater I ride a handful of times a year chasing my kids around the neighborhood, I don't bike at all. So, I really have no skin in the game.
DHS, I understand what you are saying but it is certainly not the same argument. Who on here ski's as there sole means of fitness? I have never skied to get fit. I ski for the enjoyment of adventure, speed, travel and to share experiences with my wife and friends. Actually in the winter I enevitably gain weight and loose fitness which motivtes me to get back on my bike. I am not saying that I don't skin. I do. But I bike to ski. I will ceed that this is my prefered choice. Others differ.

I have an ebike and a regular mountain bike. Use the ebike around town or for quick runs but never for any significant climbs or downhill. Its alot more rewarding to ride non assisted but I don’t fault anyone who rides an ebike on some of the trails around here. This one will kick your ass while ebikers breeze by.

the skiing to eBiking thing is silly

The stand for downhill skiing is riding a lift. Sure if you live in a place where there is sufficient snow you can earn all of your turns, but for the masses including everyone who posts on this forum, riding a lift is the standard

Riding an e bike is not the standard.

If you are older injured whatever, that's great keep getting after it. if you are just lazy. Pedal harder...

I know plenty of people who do almost nothing for fitness outside of downhill skiing. That was myself for years. Granted I didn't skin and these folks don't either. I also know some folks who only do lift serviced downhill biking and don't give a shit about their fitness. They just like to go fast and catch air

The point I was making is that everyone is different and has different motivations for why they participate in various activities. Fitness from biking may be super important to you. Others may not care at all.

Live and let live....yada yada

You are nothing but a gym rat if that is the only reason you ride your mountain bike. I ride my bike for the enjoyment of adventure, speed, travel and to share experiences with my friends ( I wish my wife was a rider). I dislike group rides with people who just hammer for fitness. Roadies are like this. They completely miss the enjoyment of being out on a bicycle.

Lets all admit it... if we could ski up hill like we can down hill, we would all do it!!! Same analogy.

Imagine being able to ski uphill at the same velocity as you can downhill. That would be pretty darn cool. I'd absolutely do that vs ride a lift. The primary reason why I don't skin and never will is it's a waste of time getting to the fast part. I'm out there to downhill ski as much as possible. That's why I don't skin and never will and it's also why I can't stand large, crowded resorts.

You guys are right that is is totally a personel preference. I am not denying your fun. It is just a different fun i guess and I am not ready to sacrifice what I really love. I'm probably just an old fuck shouting at the clounds. LOL I think you are reading me wrong though Shred. I totally enjoy my rides with my friends. We do adventure all over New Engalnd to ride. Conway, Sugarbush, Waterbury, Barre, Stowe, Gorham, everywhere. Rides are also followed by grilling, beer, camping sometimes. We ride up and absolutely RIP the downhills and I do like the downhill part better. I actuall own a downhill bike and used to do lift serviced downhill at Sugarbush, KIllington and Sunday River. I just grew out of it partly because people in my group stopped doing it and I got it for free at sugarbush before they stopped operations. But I also love the uphill. This is nothing like being a gym rat. We ride 12 months a year just to stay of the the GYM and I also do my own fitness things.

So I actually talked to my bike shop the other day about this. They sell canondale and Specialized. The e-bikes that I would consider are between 5 and 7 grand. Even if I was to consider this in the future, It would not be in front of the purchase of new gravel bikes for me and my wife. She rides with me on the road only and is very stong. We make a good team. The two gravel bikes total the same cost as one e-bike.

I love gravel biking... I have plans to do new to me routes in western MD the next 2weekends. I never got into MTB and with a currently surgically repaired collarbone, I don't think its in the cards for me at pushing 50. I'm certain I'd hurt myself doing any kind of down hill MTB.

We will be in town for the parade and a rip at Tunnel Ridge will be in the cards too on that extended weekend. If you can get your hands on a rental from Rochester Bikes or Bicycle Express, let me know. You can join us and we'll show you a good time. You'll probably be faster then me but I doubt you will be able to keep my buddy in sight. You'll want to rent a bike with the biggest battery and strongest motor you can get for this ride. Don't waste your time with an SL bike. Make sure they give you the charger along with the rental. Or maybe your bike shop will set you up with a Turbo Levo for the weekend and bring it with you. Bring beers...

We've officially jumped head first into the off season. We will be fully immersed when we start bitching about the summer lift maintenance. ;)
