I would like new boots this year. Currently have 06 or 07 Nordica Supercharger Ignitions with different footbeds and a couple of other tweaks. They are too roomy in the calves and have to be really cranked down to not feel sloppy. I'm tired of having to unbuckle my boots after every run. Also, they are just getting old/tired.

Not sure I can make it up to N Conway or VT for bootfitting. Are there any decent bootfitters in CT, Central or Eastern Mass?

Thanks

Dan
Jeff Bokum is in Concord, NH, not sure if he's close enough for you...

Hal has been at Northern K for a long time.

At K, Ray at the Basin is considered to be tops also. But its SKI mag so you have to take it with a grain of salt...

Killington is stuffed full of good boot fitters. A good boot fitter is the most expensive employee in the ski shop. There's so much local competion that all the shops have to spend the money on competent and trained staff. Ray Garrett does my boot work. Dave Strausse at Peak Performance. Aspen East. Even the local Surefoot is way better than average.

I don't quite understand how Paul Richelson's Feet First wouldn't make a Ski Mag list.

The ZZ Top boys (Leif Mikkelsen is the twin brother that does the boot work) at Strand's in Worcester always knew what they were doing. I don't have any recent info on the shop. They used to be one of the few shops that carried Strolz (along with The Basin Ski Shop at Killington) for handling the bizarre boot fitting problems like size 18 or super-wide/super-narrow feet.

Strand's is still the place for perfectly fit Strolz in Southern new England. Strolz have shells in several widths and two levels of stiffness to facilitate a custom fit. The Mikkelesen' may be short on personal hygiene but know how to fit boots that are warm, comfortable and perform. I had a compressed nerve issue in my foot from poorly fitted boots that the Leif addressed with a modification to the custom cork insoles.

Don't even think about going to Strands if you don't like dogs, want Lief to change his opinions, find a Euro approach to bathing offensive or don't like employees drinking whiskey at quitting time.

Any suggestions in either eastern MA or North Conway area? I used to go to Jack Frost in Jackson NH but I think they are gone.

+1 on Feet First. Paul did my old boots about 15 years ago, and they still are going strong. I foolishly bought new boots somewhere else last year and couldn't get them right. So I brought them in to Feet First and a young guy named Brian took great care of me. I feel stupid that I just didn't go back to them in the first place.

So Vermont is the only state on the east coast with good bootfitters?

I call BS !

I am sure there are many excellent boot fitters in other east coast states besides Vermont.

For example, pedorthist Keith Holmqjuist from The Pro Ski N' Ride has a huge following of ski patrollers, ski instructors, and famous celebrities You don't get that kind of dedication without the goods.

Total BS. Keith did my boots years ago and did a great job!
