OK, I just took a look at the forecast and the current situation at Sugarbush. Though I'm in SLC, and have been since the Fall of 2011, I was a SB passholder from 2007-2011 and in College. It's pretty much one of two places in Vermont that I would call home...with the other being Burke, where I grew up.

That said, it looks like good news/bad news for this weekend, at least if I was heading up for turns.

The good news would be that it is cold and forecast to snow. The other being that wind is not really looking like a factor. And you're going to be a Sugarbush.

The bad is a lot of their good natural terrain at both places is not open. No Castlerock. Most of the goods at Ellen are not really in play. And I don't see any snowmaking going on...although it is late in the season for that. Still, a good weekend to check out Sugarbush.

Ellen would be good for beating the crowds, but the terrain is limited. The groomers will be the first thing to hit early and often. The GMX opens at 8am and for the first hour it is cord and nobody to fight with for it. I'd do a run from GMX over to Inverness too before it gets closed for racing. The snowmaking groomers off of GMX will get skied off fast...so that first hour and the four or five runs are crucial.

After 9am go to NRX assuming it is open. Do first tracks down Elbow and then go to the Summit and hit Rim Run all the way. If Exterminator or Upper FIS are open and look good, hit them. Definitely a change from the groomers. Black Diamond may or may not be in play....probably not judging by the fact that the other natural runs are not open. It is pretty nasty in thin cover.

Lunch: grab it early at Glen House. They used to make a mean Philly Cheesesteak. I hear that the Pulled Pork that they now do is pretty good. Not as many folks there and better than the Lodge. Alternatively you can grab lunch in the Green Mountain Lounge (upstairs at the base lodge).

If you start early, you will be probably pretty tired at about 1 or 2. And by then the groomers are going to be pretty scratchy I imagine.

I would not count on Slide Brook running. If it was, that would be tempting to ride for the hell of it, but not really too helpful since it opens at 10 and closes at like 2 or 3.

Woods: high elevation stuff...maybe?

As for Lincoln Peak, ask the desk staff at the Inn if you have (or can have) early access to Super Bravo. I suggest that because the last couple seasons I was there they were letting "certain" people to ski on Super Bravo before others. Specifically, guests at Clay Brook got dibs. It made a lot of locals pissed, but it is what it is. I suggest early because if you think Ellen gets skied out early then you won't believe Super Bravo and the runs off that lift....they get skied off by 10 some days. No joke.

Regardless, get there early, ski the blues off of Super Bravo the first hour. Murphy's and Birdland are fun. Spring Fling is always a good one early...despite the traverse. And Lower Organgrinder is, well, meh IMHO.

Go down Deathspout...err...Downspout to Heavens Gate for 9 am opening. Depending on your tastes and ability, ski Ripcord early. They (used to) regularly winch it and the headwall gets skied off fast. Organgrinder and Spillsville will be bumped up. Paradise may be, well, good or terrible. Probably not so great because of thin cover.

When your bored with that, Gatehouse is OK for a run or two, but North Lynx is also good for a couple spins.

Have fun.

Wow thanks trailboss and everyone else. We were only able to get out this afternoon (our half day pass) and had a lot of fun. We hit up the trails around the gate house quad and north lynx triple. Both birch run and sunrise were scrapped off. Sleeper chutes and sleeper were fun.

We then hit up the super bravo quad and hit some blues there and stopped at the heavens gate triple. My girlfriend said no way so I headed up and told her to stay put. I looked over at paradise and waited a good 5 minutes but no one headed in. Didn't wanna explore myself given the conditions. Everything was scrapped off on that side so I met back up with my girlfriend and lapped some more blues which weren't bad.

Looking forward to glen Ellen tomorrow and getting there nice and early! Now gotta figure out dinner!
