What provider? Verizon coverage has historically been horrible, but I heard last year they where putting up a tower with EVDO capabilities, not sure if it happened.

Verizon seems to work well at the mountain now. At least it worked well for us on our last visit. Don't know anything about other providers.

Well, if Verizon worked well (it was horrible in the past), then they prolly did put that new tower up, and all of their new towers are EVDO capable. Not sure about EDGE tho. Isn't that AT&T?

I have a Verizon phone - 5 bars at the mountain.

I have a Sprint mobile broadband card - 3-5 bars of EV-DO Rev A in the town of Stowe - near the movie theatre area. A couple weekends ago I got 4-5 bars of 1xRTT service at the end of plowed area of 108 in Stowe - although I don't think 1xRTT is 3G, right?

Everytime I go out with my laptop I test my connection to help update this map:

I remember reading somewhere that 3g was going to a unifiying standard. but you have att/ tmobile with one flavor and sprint/ verizon with another. its realy gets under my skin. why cant all hotels just have wireless in the rooms. i know most have it in the lobby but i dont think they would take to kindly to me hanging out in the lobby in my slippers and underware. all is not lost i may be able to get a room that has wifi. if not are there any hot spots in town. i lived there before the age of wifi

When I go searching for "free" (sometimes free means you should buy something like coffee to get their key) wifi I start with:
http://wififreespot.com/

which lists for stowe:
Stowe Coffee House - 57B Mountain Road - (802) 253-2189
Stowe Free Library - 90 Pond Street - (802) 253-6145
The Golden Eagle Resort - lobby area - 511 Mountain Rd - 800-626-1010
Trapp Family Lodge - 700 Trapp Hill Road - 802-253-8511
Green Mountain Inn - 18 Main Street - 802-253-7301

FYI: Most Mcdonalds now too are having free wifi.

And who knows, maybe they have wifi at the Stowe Lodge... give em a call and see?

so while sitting in trafiic at the Lincoln Tunnel this morrning i decided to give att a call. after a little probing i was ale to find out they have partner GSM coverage in stowe so that means you can get EDGE coverage. that will give you around a 300K conection versus the 1.2M i get with the 3G conection.
