I had the worst drive back from mount snow ever yesterday. Traffic was backed up twenty minutes in wilmington Then at the greenfield bridge construction area we were in a jam for like 45 minutes and then joy of joys I hit a significant slow down in springfield that cost me like 4 minutes or so.
I can't believe i forgot about the greenfield traffic problem I hit it this summer but is was like only ten minutes. This was attrocious.

Go arounds include taking the back roads to the haystack golf couse on mann road I think for the wilmingoton traffic snarl.

For greenfield on a sunday night just assume it will be bad and fork off in jamaica at the big curve and go the back roads that will take you to rt2 just outside of the mcdonalds/traffic circle area in greefield. The short cut will take you out on rt 2 by an orchard and a shelburne roasters I think.

Any other suggestions or knowledge as to when the bridge construction will end?

Wow, the construction is still going on? I hit it on Dec. 2nd taking 2 West where it shares the road with 91. Everyone staying on 2 was using the breakdown lane and speeding by the gridlock. Silly me was worried about a cop monitoring the breakdown lane but it turns out there weren't any.

Yes there are cops

There was cops yesterday monitoring break down lanes and they pulled over at least two. Using break down lanes is a pet peave of mine. A it is cheating B inevitably you will generally runb into some blockagein the break down lane and the cheating cars will be rereouted into traffic delaying everyone anew.

I must have passed you (NOT in the BD lane - opposite direction!) I was going NB for one exit, following Rte 2 east. Rte 2 was clear in both directions. Perhaps you can use that.

From Mass. Highway dept:
Construction Begins: Spring 2005
Construction Ends: Winter 2006/2007

Greenfield- Bridge Deck Replacement G-12-058, I-91 NB & SB over B&M RR, Federal Aid No. IM-91-1(153)

Progress 45% Complete

Let's review:

1) You knew the construction was still going on

2) You knew a backroads route to avoid it

3) You presumably knew it was a holiday weekend

Yet you're still here bitching about it?

In other news, I am outraged that there is a whif of corruption in politics. Who knew?!!

I Knew???

Yes I did know about it this summer and a little into fall but I forgot about it or assumed that it would be finished by then. That and I assumed since i left a little early on monday that i could dodoge the traffic since on the mountain it seemed like most people left about lunch time. Next time.

***Actaully I simply am not going to ski sunday in the i 91 corridor again this year hello berkshires, new york and maine.

Well yeah, but presumably you saw the construction going on 40 feet away when you drove up northbound to begin the weekend? Regardless, given the multiple backroad routes available to avoid this backup, I'm not sure what the problem it. And Maine? Since when does it make sense to drive an extra two hours each way just to avoid an easily by-passed 30 minute traffic snarl?

the traffic backup I don't find so objectionable. Rather its all the M.F.rs who know only the left lane is open, but barrel in the right lane, pretending they're going to get off Exit 2 West, but then sneak in to the detriment of every one who is patiently waiting. It's so freakin juvenile and dangerouse.

To them I say: Wait your turn masshole, just like everyone else. Don't put my life in jeopardy under the mistaken assumption that your time is worth more than mine.

I really dislike people who do that. Where is their sense of fairness or even dignity?

Sorry to go off location, but I put up with this same c**p every workday on Rt. 128 south going onto Rt. 3 north, where people stay in the middle lane and then cut off everyone else entering the offramp from the right lane.

I guess that's a place where the m**sholes are working on their skills...

I read this thread and realize there are some things we (in the MRV) just take for granted- no stop lights or traffic jams, except for when Mrs. Turner is standing in Rt 100 waving her red flag because the cows are crossing to the other side twice a day in warm months.....gotta love that.

Either take the "western spur" - i.e. the NYS thruway - or get out a map and look for Rt. 5.

One would sit and enjoy the view and be grateful it wasn't an I91/Greenfield traffic jam... surrounded by open green meadows, mountains every direction, river running near....not too hard to take.

Reminds me of a trip back from Loon a few years ago. It normally takes 4 1/2 hours and it took us over 9. To add insult to injury it was due to a 20" snowstorm as we were heading home from the mountains. We hit it first in Springfield on 91 and then sat in traffic in the greater Hartford area for several hours. We should've just stayed up at the mountain.

I was caught up in that last weekend. Last Sunday actually.

Dumb.

I'll just go route 2 to route 122 back down to mid Mass.

Mass Highway is a joke, they've been working on the 290 deck through Worcester for a year and a half now too, that'll be another 3 years probably. Nothin' like state employees.

It's a Mass road work job: won't be done for at least two years

Probably the person who buzzed this police officer on I91 in VT might have been to blame again for driving recklessly through the construction zone and maybe causing another near-miss and the delay
