This is cool. The summer camp I attended and was a counselor at in the 80's is a front page article on boston.com. It brings back a lot of good times. Any one else spend a lot of time at summer camp back in the day? Any other Pine Islanders on the board? :-D

I went to Camp Dudley over in the Adirondacks. Was a great time and spent 6 years there as a camper/counselor. I want to head back to visit this summer though.

Nature and its glories do not come cheap. A summer at Pine Island, Camp Runoia, or Flying Moose Lodge costs between $5,800 and $6,500 per child.
Don't know anything about this camp, but this is way too rich for my blood...

Yea, I don't think I'll be able to afford to send my son once he's old enough unless we can talk them into giving us a scholarship. He might have to wait until he's a teen and can be a counselor.

I guess alot of parents would pay that to get their kids out of their hair for the summer.

That was the cost of a YEAR of tuition at Dartmouth back in the day I attended.

....summer camp...

Camp Becket in the Berkshires...early 60s.....was great for two things...solo hikes! (before it would start as parents worked at the camp) and the counselors from foreign countries. Once it would start...not that fun.....was run like a friggin army camp for spoiled little rich kids who were already into mindgames & peer pressure = very boring;-) ;-)

No .. My parents had me cutting next winter's fire wood during the summer ..

Heh, I spent summers cutting levees in rice fields and walking the target markers for cropdusters. Then, when I moved to NC, I worked in tobacco fields. Those are 3 Dirty Jobs Mike Rowe hasn't touched.
