Resort or Ski Area: Mount Sunapee, NH

Conditions: SC/Corn Weather: Mild, partly cloud with temps in the upper 40's and low 50's.

Trip Report: I decided to close out the week by taking some Friday afternoon turns at Sunapee after class before the r%^&s hit on Saturday and I was glad that I did. I arrived at the mountain about 1:30pm and found a good parking spot, but judging from the number of cars in the lot with out-of-state plates, I saw that a fair number of people had the same goal in mind: ski now or forever hold your peace during the next 24-48 hours

After a quick lunch and getting dressed, I stepped in and headed to North Peak. The original game plan was to spend most of the afternoon enjoying soft snow on North Peak and hitting the steep runs there. As I drew closer to the triple, I noted that there was a race in progress, so there was a crowd at the base watching and lower Eggbeater was mostly closed.

First run was down Flying Goose before cutting over to Goosebumps, which was surprisingly firm. :-? I headed down some soft snow on Eggbeater staying away from the racers. I was kind of  that things were firm and a bit dismayed, so I opted to take Hansen Chase down to the HSQ and sample another side of the mountain. That trail was largely skied off with lots of soft corn bumps and FG in places. I really did not ski too well--my body was tired from the week and I felt a bit fatigued. I hate it when law school gets in the way of my skiing career

At the summit I decided to check out the Sunbowl and had no expectations. I figured that because the sun had probably set on that side things would be hairy, but I was very pleasantly surprised. :D Wingding was in great shape with soft snow and nice bumps on the side. The bumps on liftline weren't ice blocks. Corn snow to be had! So I opted to stay here.

Next run was down Skyway Ledges to Skyway. I was still not in tip-top form, bouncing off of the soft bumps on the Ledges, but I got the rhythm on Skyway and found soft corn to cut through. Lower Sundance was  awesome.

At the summit again, I took Porky's and was stunned to see a "thin cover sign." I was skiing with care because Sunapee had lost a lot of snow :( Porky's had rocks here and there and even some of the main runs had spots in them to be avoided (Goosebumps, Flying Goose, Bonanza, Blastoff, etc) I did the entire run of Wingding--the top was better than the bottom.

I had pretty much skied the Sunbowl and opted to take Blast Off down to the base. The headwall had some ice and thin cover in one small section, but other than that, lots of soft corn and bumps.

I zoomed back to the North Peak Triple and hit Flying Goose, which had probably the best snow of the day...sweet corn. I then did a spin down Lynx--which has been touch and go all season and today it was decent--more ice than corn thanks to race training. My next run was down Flying Goose again--more great snow to be had and great carving  Closer was down Lynx, where I found some more corn since the ski team had left.

Decent day. Skied a lot. Not quite on my game, but still had a good time. Worth the trek.

Oh yeah...there was another ski theft at Sunapee today. A boy and his father were speaking to a manager as I was leaving. Beware and lock your items.
