For some comic relief and for comparison, all ski areas should be asked one or two questions in common. Maybe, what is your one biggest pet peeve with the skiing public? Or what is the most rediculous thing a guest has ever said/accused you of? Why should I spend my skiing dollar with you rather than out west? What is the weirdest thing you ever delt with in order to go skiing? And on and on.....The question isnt too important but i think keeping a few common threads would add to the challenge.
We discussed this last year:

http://forums.alpinezone.com/viewtopic.php?p=10159#10159
http://forums.alpinezone.com/viewtopic.php?p=13019#13019

Thoughts? It would certainly speed things up as we would only need to request five questions.

I think offering one or two template questions is fine...I enjoy reading good, well written, specific questions from folks who frequent the mountain, but I don't like repetitive questions like we had in the Jay challenge last season (i.e. regarding the Can Am trail...)

I don't want the challenge to get too blah...

let me start by saying that attitash has been one of my favorite ski destinations for years, i do have one frustration though, like most of the skiing public i use online condition reports to decide where to ski every weekend, twice this year i drove to attitash, bought a ticket and jumped on the lift to find my favorite trail 'avenger' being used as a race course, is there anyway trails being used as race courses could be indicated on your webpage, admittedly you might lose my ticket sale for that day but the skiing public will reward honesty in the long run

I believe AZ contacted the "Corporate Areas" responsibly and contacting them annually may become boring....

What about smaller areas like Saddleback in Maine? Pico in VT (I know ASC owned but you would never know it at times...)? Ascutney in VT? Dartmouth Skiway in NH? Whaleback in NH (what's going on there)? Black Mountain in Jackson NH? Pat’s Peak in NH? The aforementioned Tenney (once one of my favorite glade areas)? Crotched Mountain in NH? Tupper in NY? Jiminy Peak in MA? BEAST in MA? Butternut in MA?

The big resorts make the news regularly...let's find out what's happening with the smaller operations...they are usually the family areas where most of us began the addiction…

I guess we could break out Pico from Killington

I'm pretty sure Pat's will be participating this summer.

I've contacted Tenney already and Crotched will be participating this summer.

Jiminy and Butternut will be participating this summer. No commitment from the Beast yet, but I'm sure they will.

Last minute submission it appears!! Welcome to the site, thebigo, I'll see if I can sneak it into the question list.

Some great points by Charlie...I'd like to see Dartmouth Skiway, Tupper, and Whaleback on the list!! :D

first look at this thread and i'm not going to offer suggestions for actual areas.

instead, what i would like to suggest is following up with the previous year's answers to the challenge. did the ski area implement the changes or ideas or upgrades or whatever? a follow up to compare how the ski area answered the questions vs. what they actually did. this may best be handled by discussion with forum members that actually skied those areas. just a thought as so often we forget the promises of the past when new one's are offered...

Jay would be a fantastic resort to challenge.

I ran into one of the resort reps on the tram and he said that Jay is planning to cut some trails in the west bowl this summer and have lifts up for winter 06/07. How many trails will they have for winter 05/06? Will they be open/accesible from current trails?

Will Jay cut anymore "glades" into their existing trail network (like deliverance and BBP)?

What have they done (if anything) to repair the damage (trail cutting) out to Big Jay?

I can tell you first hand that some of the things brought up in the AZ Challenge last year with Wachusett were addressed. They had some new rules enforced for school groups, which were good to see. It was a start, but there is still more to be done in the area to ensure that all schools comply with them.
