I have the unique opportunity of spending a lot of time on the snow this season. While I intend to work hard on my downhill skills, I’m considering trying other snow sports too. If you could learn another snow sport, what would you choose?

Look forward to your responses!

BTW, I'm still learning powder but did 3 mini-mogul runs on Thanksgiving and it was FUN!!

does cross country skiing count? I think I may take it up this winter, or maybe snowshoeing. If we get some good snow lynn woods would be awsome for either.

Hey River dont you supposed to be skiing today?

i just got back. foot deep and good base, yee haw. found a trail combo down at least 500 verts that was completely untouched with very minimal scratches to my bases, woot. after my two runs yesterday and burke earlier in the week, my legs didn't have the stamina to head back to the summit again, so only one run today.

I've done XC a couple of times. I'm REALLY bad at it but it would be a fun way to get a great aerobic workout if I lived somewhere I could do it with some regularity. I'd like to try telemarking (is that really a different sport?). Just looks so elegant but I'm bad enough on alpine skis.

My physical therapist is a ski patroller but really likes to telly (is that the right spelling?). RIS, I'm like you, I'm struggling enough on my alpine, hesitate to try telly but it does look very cool! Saw someone telly-ing through a mogul field--now THAT was humbling!!

.......

....While still enjoying alpine's pull of gravity, I'm really enjoying X-country/backcountry touring(how about "XT" for brevity;-). Traversing at one's own pace with the ability to glide gets me as close to nature as I can get...in Winter, besides...trying to throw some effective parallel into downgrades on skinny skis is a lot of fun  .... , and with today's clothing, skis & waxes, nice bindings, and good-fitting...warm boots...you can go anywhere...

XT--I like it! Now, keep in mind, I live in the Rockies (at about 9,000') so I can envision a fair amount of huffing and puffing with this adventure! Great for my endurance though! Actually this sounds really good--reminds me of my motorcycling days...being very close to nature (and the road!)...fun!

Another vote for snowshoeing.

For something that is as old as snow, it is very up and coming. And the modern snowshoes go anywhere! :D

1. Snowshoeing.

2. X-Country Skiing.

3. Ice Boating, not really a snow sport, but it is a winter sport for those who want to continue playing with wind on a lake...
