Go to the web cam and click on the time lapse. You can see some headlamps just before dawn. Set it at a 10 minute interval.

Great PR shots from Sunday River and Mount Snow this weekend. I would normally say it doesn't mean much since this is not a base building effort but rather a marketing effort. However... it does show how serious these two resorts are about being the first to open in New England. It shows they mean business.

on last two trips to vt of the season i was at mt snow and the bush and both put out a great product. all the employees where happy which translated to happy customers. it seems like the resorts are trying to give these places the personal touch.

Just got this e-mail from Accuweather.

"A dry and mild southerly flow will develop by the afternoon ahead of the next cold front. This will allow for a nice afternoon with highs reaching closer to normal than on Sunday. Highs will mainly climb into the 60s across the mid-Atlantic. On Tuesday, the cold front bringing rain to the Great Lakes today will be moving across the Northeast. It will allow some chilly rain showers to touch off over the region with even colder air at bay.

"We could be looking at the coldest November since 2002 -- admittedly the past few Novembers have been relatively warm," Joe Bastardi, Chief Long-Range Forecaster for AccuWeather.com said. "However, we could also be setting the stage for a cold December." In his 2008-09 AccuWeather.com Winter Forecast, Bastardi called for "one of the coldest winters in several years across much of the East" with "bookends of cold" in early winter and late Januaryto February. He said that the periods of cold could put a strain on homeowners facing high heating costs.
After the front passes through by Tuesday night, rain will change over to the first snow of the season in northern New England and the St. Lawrence River Valley. The storm will strengthen off the New England coast on Wednesday, allowing for more snow to mix in with rain. Northern New York to northern New England will have a light covering to 3 inches of snow through Wednesday with the higher accumulations in the mountains. "

I look at it this way: The more time we're away skiing, the less time we're sitting around heating the house. :spin:

Yeah, this is one of the first times I can remember that NOAA hasn't been predicting above average temperatures for New England in their 3 month winter outlooks. Instead, there's a big fat "EC" (equal chances of warm or cool) which is promising. And, they're usually right on...last year they predicted just above average which was correct; the two years before last were both predicted as significantly above average which were also correct...let's hope they're good this year too...

02-03 was a respectable season as I recall. Though never good to hype the early season as some not good seasons have started out good. I'll take what I can get. At the least, a cold November means good snowmaking and good base building which sets the stage for doing more with less if that is the case or more with more ideally.
