I'll be taking my 5th ski trip to Jackson Hole during late January(no dates set) for 8-9 days. Is anybody skiing Jackson Hole this season? This will be the last year with no Tram..I was never a big fan of the Tram because it's uncomfortable and the wait is usually long. The new East Ridge lift is great because you can lap Rendevous bowl..plus the Lower Faces see alot less traffic because people don't want to return to the bottom as often..Anyway I can't wait. Jackson Hole is my favorite place to ski...Less than 5 more months..

yes , Feb 2 to Feb 11 staying Village Center Inn room 26 about 50 feet away from the loading area of the old TRAM. While others are taking their 45 minute bus ride in from town, we are sitting around cooking and eating breakfast with a 2 minute walk to the Gondola. Full kitchen and runs about $410 per person for 7 nights and 5 day lift tickets. Location location location. Last year for Village Center INN. Awesome place for families with young children.

Negative. Now with my deployment, I might not even be able to hit Whistler anymore....

I can hope to. Really like Targhee and want to return. Have to see if a time share opens up, or a good deal.

Interesting..I didn't realize the Village Center Inn was so reasonable..The bus from town is 20-30 minutes..not 45 minutes..My last 4 trips I've stayed at the Antler Inn and watched it get more rundown so I'm either staying somewhere nicer in town or On-Mountain. It's a solo trip for me but my buddy Tom comes down from Bozeman for about 3 days and he's my ride to Grand Targhee..

I'm thinking about going back again this year. Been a favorite since the late 80's....
Had some friends that worked there last year.. If they go back I'll hit it again...
Proabably wait until March though for deeper snow. We only used East Ridge for the BC gates... :)

Great location...go one way to the lift, stumble the other way to the Mangy Moose. To be fair, lots of great stuff in Jackson which your going to have to drive to or take the START bus. It's one of the oldest lodging places in TV. Is that little store still there at the bottom?

I know it's all about the skiing but if you can take an afternoon off it worth it to check out the National Elk Refuge or Yellowstone either on the SnoCoach or a guided snowmobile trip, if your really energetic. There is an afternoon trip into Granite Hot Springs which is awesome. An afternoon x-c skiing in GTNP is amazing.

If your staying in the village and you get woken up by loud explosions and your windows are shaking.....not to worry...it's a very good thing. It's just the ski patrol firing off this baby for avalanche control meaning there is freshies to be had.

Hi all---just searched and came across this post and i have a question to help me get ready for my first trip to Jackson...what is the best time of year (snow wise) to hit up Jackson? I have been hitting Whistler for around 4 years now and always go first eek in March? Is that too late for good pow at Jackson, would January be better? Any help would be terrific---thanks Koko

Late January is the best time of the year for snow in J-Hole..The elevation is fairly low for the Rockies and the mountain and there is so much exposure to the sun that the late February/March sun can make the snow manky in a hurry. I'll be there around January 20th..

True.. BUT the snowpack is deeper, by close to 30", in March - opening more lines..
So it's a trade off... Either way it's awesome...

I think I'm booking this week...
Going to take catskills advice and stay at the village..

As I have said in other threads there is no way you can predict how much snow JH or any other resort for that matter will have at any particular time in the future. You just have to go for it and hope for the best. Even if you don't get epic powder during your visit you can still have a great time and some awesome sking. If you can wait till the winter starts and have some flexibility for booking your trip you can reduce the risks by alot but I realize most don't have that situation.

I remember winters in JH where we didn't have snow until Xmas and winters where there was plenty of snowpack by Thanksgiving. I remember times in February when a high pressure would get stuck and for two weeks we didn't even see a cloud let alone new snow. I guess the bad winters tend to stand out. During the years I owned a business just off the Jackson town square, I experienced a winter where there was not much snow for Xmas and barely survived. I was forced to lay off my 2 employees and worked 7 days a week all ski season, has a JH seasons pass from a trade for photo work and did not ski once that winter. Hard to believe but my motivation to make my business succeed overrode my desire to ski.

Since the summer economy in JH is the busiest season by far( a surprise to most) the Yellowstone fires of 1988 finally drove me out of business and I went back to being a working stiff at the JHMR(it was known as the Jackson Hole Ski Corp back then) for another 8 years fulltime yearround. Definately made up for the skiing I missed as a business owner. :D

For anyone who is going to JH or thinking about it here is the best " guide to Jackson Hole" ever done. It's the real deal. Never met Bob personally, PM'd with him a few times but his business partner is an old friend.

No. Not for a while. I went out last year. Stayed at Snow King, skied JHMR for 4 days, Snow King for 2 and Targhee's cat skiing for one. It's a great place, to be sure, but we really didn't get the best conditions. It had rained the week before and it was a lot of dust on crust the first couple of days. Then it dumped and we got a good hit at JHMR and a great day riding the cat at Targhee. (Coem to think of it, the only part of the day that wasn;t so great was riding the cat, the rest was awesome.)

My Western trips are few and far between. I'll probably hit Utah and NM before I go back to Wyoming.

I wish

No trips out west this year, but I see a SLC trip in the near future. The lady doesn't ski unfortunately, so I would need a winter cold weather trip to be in a place with plenty of off slope things to check out. As charming as I hear Jackson is, I don't think it would fit the bill. Either SLC or Portland, seem like my next western visits.

speaking of Jackson Hole, has anyone seen "Trial and Air" by Storm show studios? they're based in jackson, filmed entirely in jackson last year with some pretty sick skiing and riding. I just watched it the other night. If that doesn't get you to want to go to jackson, check your pulse.

I used to work with Mike Tierney...you'll see him in there...also a great shot of all the lemmings standing around Corbetts. Tierney used to fantasize about JH everyday too...now he's lived there for the last 12 years, started his own painting company straightline painting...skis pretty much all winter and paints all spring summer and fall.
