On days like today how long do mountains remain open for ski nuts like us??? I have actually NEVER skied in weather like this. I have skied a couple of times in a little rain though...

Still want to go to Hunter or Belleayre Monday and hoping mountains in better shape by then.

was seriously considering going today, but this weather looks horrendous. Instead, I'm spending today planning impromptu trip to Alta/Snowbird this coming mid-week.

yup. The only reason I'm able to go is cuz i have a $1200 credit i have to use with American Air before May.

Did you look at jetblue? I checked to compare and it looked reasonable.

I was seriously considering going to Woodbury yesterday evening, but there was nobody skiing in their webcam and they did not answer the telephone. I went out to dinner and while I was out they called me back, and left a message that they were still opened, but it was too late at night to drive up for just a few turns, sigh.

I spent the day playing with my son on our large scale model train layout in our basement. We are planning to go up to Killington next weekend if the weather is good, as they are offering some nice lodging deal.

It's NOT raining at all on Long Island right now, and it has not been since about 11:00am, but it is really windy and warm at 54F.

I was at mount snow yesterday and today. Yesterday turned out to be real nice, but it was obvious from early this morning that today was going to be a washout. I cut my losses and headed down I91 to the obligatory stop at Yankee Candle (wife blew over 100 clams) and Cracker Barrel. Mohegan and Foxwoods was fully booked so here I am back in NY ..... oh we.l.

The base was better than expected. Some thin areas but you can certainly find a way down the trails. If you have a pair of spare beaters, this might be the time to bring them up.

The madness of King George, and yes, I was out Saturday....

....Whiteface. 2" fresh (I'm not kidding), but is was only 10%, not Utah's 8%. Oh, you must be confused....the Whiteface powder was 10% air, 90% water. Did I say it was like skiing pea soup....in a steady downpour ?? And I drove 191 miles each way for the privledge ?

Thankfully, the Olympic Authority had a psychiatrist posted in the base lodge, and it was confirmed that I'm nuts. Pounded out 12k verts according to my S6, then went into Lake Placid for shopping (guilt presents for wife and boys), and a killer meal, and cup of Joe made by the sweetest....

Oh, hell. I'm off to get my head checked again. But it was skiing, and kind of surreal, and whiteface was in clouds from about 2/3 up, with summit chair not spinning. But one run on "thin cover" was little pockets of fresh...and I hop, hop, hopped all the way down. Left at 6:10 am, returned at 9:50pm. Please send all contributions to Our Sisters of the Sick Skiers chapel in Lake Placid.... :dunce:

was originally planning on skiing cannon today (sunday), but they closed for the day due to "winds and weather." probably wasn't worth the drive even if they had been open, very rare do i say that.

I was at Sugarloaf on Saturday. The day started fogged in down low, but mid-mountain was above the clouds and in fine shape. A little later, it was snowing! Except way down low where it got wet and soft, the conditions far, far exceeded expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It wasn't until around 1 or 2 in the afternoon that it changed to sleet and rain.

After pouring all night and into Sunday morning, we did in fact see on TV at least two people ride up the lift and ski down. Bwahahaha. Hydroplane down, more likely.

Actually, JetBlue does fly to SLC, but not out of Boston (Logan)

Flights to SLC are available from JFK in NYC, and w/a layover in JFK, from(gasp)Burlington, VT!!! (As if Vermonter's need more preferential treatment when it comes to skiing...)
