Any speculations on what snow cover will be like the 2nd week of April in southern VT? Namely Burke?
Planning on taking some family up there for a weekend birthday celebration.

First off, Burke is in NORTHERN Vermont. Second, they'll probably be closed due to lack of volume :( ...I imagine they'll shut up in the last weekend of March. That said, they have reopened for a free-day in the second weekend of April in the past, so check it out: www.skiburke.com

Can't confirm if they're doing this or not for this season. Best bet is to e-mail them through their website (tell 'em Trailboss from AZ sent ya )

As for snowcover, the way things are looking is that we'll have lots of snow but few places remaining open then for skiing. :( Same old drill...no skiers who are paying = no revenue = close for the season (even with the best cover). (Sigh) I hate it :x

Sugarloaf and Sunday river will stay open late into April. SR doing the may 1st Free day. I skied into May last year all was really pretty good until the last week of April a couple 80 degree days killed it. Killington looks like mid May. Brettonwoods and Killington will fight it out for who opens the longest. This talk is bad, at least 1 more good month. Loon I heard this weekend is sticking to its April 10th closing day. Most areas seem to be the last week of March or first few weeks in April. That way most years.

On Skiied at the River one year on April 30th and May 1st...We had the place to ourselves on April 30th...

Blue skis and mid 70 degrees..very sweet...then free skiing day came...was in the low 80'sand the mountain got wiped out...

There were rivers right down the middle of the trails...

3 Weeks till my spring fling....let it snow!

Hunter will be closing the 2nd weekend in April with more then 80% of the mountain still covered with snow... :( Third weekend is a snowmobile race at the base...

Thankfully - they have a liberal climbing/skiing policy... :)

how about snomobile up...where would you hike up?

They may get mad about a sled..

But we hike either straight up the front or the Belt Parkway...

Takes about 45 minutes to get to the top using skins....

I thought you were joking....talk about a work out...

So how many runs do you get in a day....and what do you ski down?

Loon sent its e-mail list group info that it will stay open until the 17 of April one week longer than planned. Looks like the feeling is the snow will hang around. I saw Pico closing next weekend. Cost saving seems to be the reason there.

Yep, real shame. It is a nice place to ski. They buy it only to have it closed most of the season...some more great ASC logic

As long as Sr stays open until at least the 24 of April everyday and May 1st. I'll be happy. I still may make a trip to Killington in early May. Pico is nice, but I understand why it will close. Cost cuttings are going on even in the real world these days. IF I skied Pico on a regular basis I would feel different.
