Back a few years ago...Intellicast used to produce a report from "Dr Dewpoint" right about this time of year.

It used to go over the long-range forecasting issues, El Nino / La Nina, Atlantic Blocking Pattern, etc,

Then is would compare these five or so factors to previous winters with similar factor values and come up with a long-range winter forecast...how much snow etc.

But Intellicast pulled that plug some time ago. :<

Are we down to the NOAA's site as the only long-range winter forecast...or is there something else?

As amp'd as these cold AM temps get me...I see 80F forecasted for later this week.

Plenty of "fall" weather to experience before the snow flies (or gets blown).

Time to reduce the patio furniture collection...close the pool...stack the firewood...etc.

nearly 90F in nyc on friday ... ytd burlington is averaging nearly +4 above normal. if things average out, could be a great winter. if this above normal trend continues, we're in for a repeat of last year.

Dr Dewpoint is a guy by the name of Joe D'Aleo. He still blogs and can be found by a search. Joe Bastardi (and give credit where credit is due, He nailed last years forecast) has a forecast out that shows real snowy in the west and a battleground area in the northeast. My understanding is we are again in La Nina conditions and that the strength and location (east based or west based) and timing (when does it peak and start to fade) will determine our winter. Good signs to me are lots of acorns down, cat seems to be beefing up, and deer seem to be getting their winter coats already.
