A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!
CT/Mass I haul if I'm on the highway, I'm typically one of the fastest save for those big-a trucks and Jeeps. Statistically speaking, my car is better outfitted and I've got more snow driving experience than 90% of the people I'm on the road with, so my level of concern regarding me fucking up is slim.

Vermont it's the opposite. I have to assume people have better-equipped vehicles and far more snow driving experience, so I take it easy and let people by when they catch up to me. Also fewer cars, fewer people to find trouble spots on the road. I don't want to be the first.

Definitely slowed down a bit the last couple of years as my kids neared driving age, and with my oldest with her license now, that won't be changing this Winter

I commute every day to NYC..the morning drive is the Indy 500 for MORONS. The drive home is a bit slow with all the traffic. A lot of people simply either cannot drive or need to, be in front of anyone in their way. I stay in the right lane a lot because I don't feel going 80 in a 50 is wise. When I want to go fast..I do it on a track. Its why I put a really good stereo in the vette and didn't bother suping it up.

When we had our 3rd kid, we bought a big 3rd row Ford Expedition. My favorite thing in traffic is the automatic cruise control (I wish it had lane centering also). You just steer & go. I'm looking forward to the days of fully automated driving, at least for the commute type of ride.

Not a fan of the lane centering. I shut it off in my vehicle. It makes steering a little weird. For instance if you try to get around something in the road ( dead animal, pothole or miscellaneous object) if you get close to the line , not over just close , there is resistance that seems sketchy.

I am a fast driver, even in snow, with the major caveat that I am well aware that start and driving traction isn't the issue, its stopping traction and distance needed. Thus I try to regulate speed to make sure I can stop if needed. Seen too many SUVs off the road - or piled into someones rear end - due to inability to stop....

Mine has lane keeping assist which is like ping pong between the lane lines. There are times where I try to get around something and it sort of resists me, but overall I do like having it. Moreso, I like OTHER people having it , especially those coming towards me on 2 lane roads where they are on their phones 🤬

A pet peeve of mine is people who assume driving fast = bad driving.

Situational awareness, proper distancing, lack of distractions, etc. are far more important for accident avoidance than strictly the speed.

As I've gotten older, I've become very, very content with taking it easy on the roads. Especially with two kids, one of whom has her license and the other who has her permit and will have her license in 7 months. We take a lot of trips to the ADK's and the Greens from NJ. To me, I'm very happy driving in the right lane, listening to music or a podcast, sipping a good cup of coffee and not worrying about getting a speeding ticket. If the trip takes an extra 15 minutes, so be it.

FWIW, funny story, years ago, we had a guy do a presentation in my office on beating the average. He tried to illustrate that mindset by asking a group of about 40 guys who thought they were an above average driver. I was the only one who didn't raise my hand. So 39/40 felt they were above average...LOL.

When fully automated driving is available and reliable, I'll be very happy to take a nap or read a book and let the car take me to the slopes.

And I just put snow tires on ....

That's soon. I dont put my snow tires on until Thanksgiving week, but that's only because I go to northern Vermont every Thanksgiving. Given this year we likely wont be "allowed" to go to Vermont for Thanksgiving, I bet I wont bother until December.

I'm still not putting the golf clubs in the basement until an opening day is imminent (don't want to jinx it ;)) nor have I gotten the snowblower ready or put the driveway marking stakes in yet!

Snowtires are on my list next week!

I drive 9 mph over the limit for the most part. I'm never in a rush.

But I love drivers who travel at warp speed. The fisherman in me calls them "ticket bait".

Well..considering I do it myself..in my garage. Its better to do it when it 60 degrees rather than 25. And remember that freak storm we got in November that caused the entire tri state are to..crash.
Plus I check and or replace the brake pads at this time..not fun when its super cold.
And they handle the huge puddles that form on the side of the road pretty well. No hydroplaning.

I found that I need to switch off the lane assist when the road is snow covered but has the wheel tracks are close to pavement. It doesn't know what is center.

The snow tires were on the car in March when everything shut down, and they're still on today.

I drive it a bit every week to scrape the rust off the brakes, etc., but it's been mostly idle for the past eight months.

I'm ready!

I find that in Colorado where the speed limit is 75 and few highway patrol, if you are not doing 85ish or higher then your getting passed all the time. Even on the 70 on the way to the mountains where the speed limit is 60 people drive 75 - 80 when it is not stop and go (we have found ways to avoid the bad traffic on 70). There is a stretch in highway 24 from Colo Sprgs to Breck or Monarch where it is straight for about 15 miles with one lane in each direction - it is like nascar where people are passing all the time. it is 65 but people drive 80. It is crazy but I am comfortable with it!
