was thinking powdr would go after that....
Talisker...the company buying the canyons, owns all the land that park city mtn resort and deer valley are on. They lease the land to Powdr...so they could be in a nice place to take over the ops at the canyons too. Talisker doen't look like an operator, just a land owner/developer...like CNL Properties who owns properties run by Boyne (Brighton), Booth Creek (Loon and Northstar Tahoe). CNL also owns Bretton Woods/Mt Washington Hotel, and a bunch of other places...marinas, golf courses, malls, etc. Another huge privately owned company buying into the snow industry...can't enen find out much about them online.
Geographically could pcmr and the canyons be connected? I thought I read somewhere that the moutain in between the two was originally slated for an independant ski resort at some point in the past.

How come nobody is bashing Talisker for not announcing an extended ski season right off the bat? What are the season pass rates going to be? They'd better have a $299 unlimited pass to all Talisker resorts or there's going to be hell to pay.
Because this company, experts in land and property management, has no more experience with ski resorts than POWDR. And I doubt they will manage the Canyons any differently than POWDR does Killington. This is a real estate company.
Is it because they're out west and nobody in the east cares?
I'll be watching what they announce and the reaction to it very closely in the next few weeks.

According to some friends in Park City Talisker owns that land too...its a pretty good distance if you drive from the canyons to park city resort...something like 6 miles...but the terrain is much closer and might only take a few lifts to get there...canyons put in a lift...dreammaker I think, last year that got them even closer. There are mtb trails that you can ride from deer valley all the way to the canyons...and beyond. There's also talk out in SLC about working out some sort of interconnect from big and little cottonwood to the park city resorts...I think geographically the canyons and brighton are the closest...would make SLC more like Europe in the ability to ski from one resort to another.
