Trip Report:
I haven't been to Ascutney much(2nd time), but last time I was there in December I was looking forward to coming back in Jan/Feb... That Jan thaw must have done a number on Ascutney as well, with I'd say about 50% of the mountain open and not much if any Black <>'s 'open'. After buying a ticket, we realized that the handwritten note taped to the front-desk said they were only running one of the main lifts to mid-station.... We quickly realized that our expectations of the day ahead had gone sour and asked to come back another day (maybe we would have headed over to Sunapee or Okemo instead) with no luck.

So we tried to make the best of what was open, and the warm 14F day.. Luckily lines were short, parking lot was empty, we strategically parked so it was ski-on/ski-off to the car :) literally my girlfriend ski'd off the snowbank into the parking lot and almost ended on her windshield. We ski'd everything open, Exhibition the straight shot down being our favorite. PP, fast conditions throughout. The sides held stale powder from Mondays storm, a bit of melt-freeze or freezing rain glazed the top of it for some crud-busting pow sides... I made a short hike over to Terminator to crud-bust some not so fresh, freshies... at least I got some first tracks, and didn't ding the gear!

Look forward to Ascutney on a pow-day(like I had in Dec), it's pretty craggy and fun for a smaller family style hill.... I get the feel that they rely heavily on mother nature for most of their coverage... My alternate report from Sunday available here.
