Actually what happens in many of these scenarios, and it's very often the small business owner that gets affected by this, is something called the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT)kicks in with respect to all the expenses. I own my own business and there is a decent percentage of expenses that I legitimately take as a deduction from my tax return (some of it I could possibly have my business pick up, but it would be getting into a "gray" area about is it a full business expense that my business should pay for, or legally does it belong as a write off on my personal taxes. What happens with the AMT is if your deductions are above a specific percentage of your gross income, then you get taxed at the AMT. The AMT is somewhat of an oxymoron as you end up paying a higher percentage than a lower percentage(I remember the first time my accountant told me I was subject to the AMT. Not knowing what it was at the time, I was expecting to hear that my return would have me paying less taxes, but I was suddenly suprised when I heard how much MORE I'd be paying.

Good LORD! That's like the "if you don't owe taxes legitimately we'll tax you double for winning" tax. You need to leave communism behind and come to Canada! lol

P.S. We also have a 17% "small business" tax which applies to corporate earnings up to $400,000. It allows you to keep money in your business to build it. Many provinces also offer a tax holiday to new corporations for the first 2-5 years making the corporate tax rate 12% on your first 400K of earnings.

You also have crappy beer and Anne Murray. No one in their right mind would want to go to Canada!

But IMHO, Rush more than makes up for Anne Murray, Bryan Adams and I'll even throw Celine Dionne into the mix, combined!

Oh come on...when was the last time you read classic Canadian literature? Or said, "gee honey, why don't we stay in and order Canadian for dinner?" I'm very suspicious of those guys north of the border.

No clue how that relates to Attitash :)

Within the last six months, I've read to classics by Canadian writers.

"The Watch that Ends the Night" by Hugh MacLennon
"The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood.

Both great Canuckian books.

There's no amount of Rush that'll ever make-up for Ms. Celine. She's just dreadful.

I'll offer up Neal Peart's legendary drum solo in "YYZ", argueabley the greatest drum solo of all time, as evidence to combat Celine Dionne :)

Okay, here's my 5 degrees of seperation between where this thread has gone and how Attitash ties in:

1) Attitash's new snowmaking technology demonstration
2) They're building a ski dome in Las Vegas that will need snowmaking technology
3) Celine Dionne is currently performing in Las Vegas
4) Celine Dionne is Canadian
5) Canadian literature

You see, the link between where this thread started and where its gone is clear as can be!

Hmmmm, Reasons Canadians rule:

1. For each and every American, your national debt is now $30,000 per head and climbing. For each and every Canadian, our debt per head is $11,000 and falling.

2. We have enough oil and natural gas to power us for atleast the next 1000 years.

3. Our dollar is kicking your dollars ass as a result of 1 and 2. We've gone from paying $1.60 for your dollar 4 years ago to you paying us $1.02 for ours today. This is more the result of your country being in an economic death spiral rather than the gains of our dollar.

4. If Celine Dion is so bad, why was she offered the richest contract in the history of Las Vegas to perform? Hell, they even knocked down a hotel to build her a place to her specification to perform! Why isn't there an American in her spot?

5. Shania Twain is HOT. Shania Twain has also stomped every other female country artist out there for the past 15 years and a lot of the pop ones too!

6. Anne Murray lives 30 mins from my house and is a very nice lady. Anybody who would slam Anne Murray has obviously never heard of Rita MacNeil, lol.

7. We can fart in public and it's funny, just because our $hit doesn't stink. Just ask Terrence and Philip. :)

If my Grandparents were Canadian .. can I be Canadian too ...

I don't quite understand your point? Anyone can become a Canadian if they try hard enough. However, if your PARENTS dropped their Canadian citizenship to become Americans, a Cuban is going to have an easier time becoming Canadian than you. The gov isn't real big on ship jumpers wanting back on board. The US gov is the same way.

Dude! You say some really screwy stuff sometimes. It leads me to believe you're also the type that would also run around burning your OWN flag. Do you get beat up a lot? :-o

The original train of thought is right down there, at the bottom of the canyon. Unfortunately, it derailed somewhere around the canadian line for some reason on the way to attitash snowmaking test, and fell to a fiery crash in the frozen river below..
