Geez, if it's that frequent you'd think they'd take some measures like they do in the Alps with avalanche barriers:

I was thinking the same thing as I was reading the article...

Just seems pretty negligent and easily preventable with simple improvements that would last in the long run.

Cost vs. benefit. 20 miles is a pretty long stretch to protect (would be like building an avalanche shed from my house to Worcester, MA), but I agree, it would certainly seem wise to cover at least some of the more slide prone stretches.

That pass, and two others just like it, are the only thing that keeps the riff-raff out of the area. God bless mother nature, I say.
