you must have had a vastly different kindergarten from me...cold prickalies? And yeah, I went a little overboard there. I was objecting to his logic. That kind of thinking annoys the hell out of me. He struck a nerve, I've been sitting around my house all day doing nothing, all the snow is gone...I'm grumpy.

sorry. I realize I took this too far.

Your parents drink, right? Well go ahead and pour yourself a few shots. They will never notice. Heck if you end up drinking too much, then just fill it back up with water. Some people may think that drinking alone is pathetic or sign of depression, but with the internet you're "technically" not drinking alone since you have all your forum buddies! Just ask GSS he does it all the time. I expect some drunken posting within the next hour.

I merely meant earlier that I just want alot of snow...like a 200 inch base..from my internet observations this is what I have gathered..

There was some early snowfall along with a raincrust way back in October. Then it snowed a little more followed by a really strong November raincrust which is the catalyst..to a the recent cheese and dookie at JHMR..Jackson Hole Mountain Resort...things were dry and cold for a time which lead to layer of Hoar frost..and then it started snowing..first just a little bit..then at rates of 3 inches an hour..a tremendous load on a weak surface..then the winds did their thing and loaded vulnerable exposures even more...then the dust settled..then it snowed again..and it's supposed to keep snowing..indefinitely..to much of a good thing..it's exciting to follow but scarey to think about the consequences..mother nature can be a real Bitch sometimes!!!!

Jackson Hole is a special place but it can also be a dangerous place. Last season on the day of a blizzard..I only got 2 runs on Apres-Vous and one on the gondola before the resort closed down..then I had a long lunch..regrouped and hit Snow King for 2 hours..Snow King is legit..groomed or powder..it has some steep runs and it took me until my 5th visit to Jackson WY until I experienced 1500 vert of pure legit..

Comparing skiing a gnarly mountain in extreme conditions vs surfing in a hurricane is a good Analogy..and skiing inbounds all the time with a tranceiver at gnarly mountains is a good idea..odds are you won't need the transceiver but it's a sense of security..sort of like a Helmet..or a seatbelt..

I want people to be safe and the ski patrollers at Jackson Hole are experts on safety and I give ++++++++++++++Vibes++++++++++++their way because they are busting their ass and risking their lives for the safety and enjoyment of tourists like me..

I know what GSS meant, it just came out wrong. Problem is the layers are totally messed up right now and probably won't get any better till spring. More snow and wind will just load it up more and create even bigger slides cause bonding will never have the chance to happen. It seems really really bad up there as they had a big rain crust on top of early snow. More snow will just mean more closures and I bet JHMR patrol will take it all incredibly seriously after recent events. I want more snow too but I'd also like to ski the ridge at some point this season.

Everyone east or west should all appreciate all the hard work patrol does to keep the mountain and people safe, instead we tend to shit on them when rules are enforced. Most of these guys and girls are totally volunteer-this is such a selfless act they need more free beer.

Don't mean to take the spot light off GSS, but I thought you may be interested in a post on EpicSki from a member/moderator who is an instructor/guide at Jackson Hole.
I would post his words directly here instead of linking to Epic, but I would prefer to ask his permission before I do that.

Thanks for posting that.

OK so Ive been living through all this shit back here for the past 2 weeks...and let me tell you its funny to read a thread from a bunch of east coasters about it all.

The Christmas storm was insane. I waited in the tram line for 4 hours before they gave us the no go and it snowed a foot in that time ... at the base! Needless to say we bailed and went to Snow King where it was nipple deep with no avy danger.

The guy who died poached a huck to lookers right through a permanently closed area called Unskiabowl and hucked a decent sized cliff called the Cave into an area named Toilet Bowl. It was there that he lost a ski and and at some point the whole thing slid. His buddy who didnt lose a ski rode it out a bit, still got buried, but lived. The guy with one ski didnt. He was wearing a beacon. Was dug out in 10 minutes, unresponsive.

Two days later the headwall slid, leaving an 8 foot crown down to the 3/4" thick rain crust from November. Piled snow up 40 feet or so and blasted out most of the windows on the second floor of the Couloir restaurant. Buried a patroller in the patrol shack under so much snow that they had to blow a wall through the pastry kitchen to get him out from within the building.

Needless to say, the next morning the entire mountain was open by 1030. Things are definately sketch, Laramie slid yesterday leaving a 4 foot crown and buried a snowcat. BTNF has closed the backcountry gates until further notice, my guess is for at least a month, if not the rest of the season. Im carrying full avy gear in bounds for the rest of the season, but Im still out there getting the goods.

There are serious risks involved when you ski big, steep, technical Western mountains, but you cant live life in a plastic bubble. Be safe, have fun, worry about the details later.

1-2 feet more predicted by tomorrow night with heavy winds. Should be interesting.
