We might as well round out all the New England states. Last season, I started making more trips to Maine than Vermont and that trend will definitely continue this year. I like the mountains and the overall vibe of Maine. Anybody who's been to one of thaller's meet-and-greets will know what I mean.

Here's my list:

Sugarloaf - excellent terrain; personally, I think it's the best in the East
Sunday River - short but broad; offers great variety; ski resort with a smaller ski area feel.

I plan to hit the following Maine ski areas and I'm sure I will enjoy them:

Saddleback
Mt. Abram
Shawnee Peak
Camden Snow Bowl

Lastly, in my lifetime, I hope to hike for turns in Mount Desert Island and on Katahdin.

It was our family of 4 first full year of skiing last year: I would rate em:

1. Saddleback - We hit this place 4 times late season after all the snow dumps. It really rocked. Affordable and a Great family vibe - good terrain for all abilities.
2. Sugarloaf - My wife and I skied a lot during our 'dating years'. We know the mountain well and are comfortable there. Looking forward to Boyne Infrastructure Improvements
3. Shawnee Peak - we had a blast night skiing there last year
4. Sunday River - We did the Sunday River Pole Shuffle too much there last year, but we are starting to know the mountain better and what lifts to take etc.
5. Mt. Abram - Skied once in an ice storm - looking forward to visiting again with better conditions.

saddleback-i love low key hills that offer up big terrain. high base elevation=good snow (more natural than the loaf imho). little competition after a snow event.

sunday river-only because it feel like home to me. i keep finding myself back here despite many attempts to move on. i bet in 30 years i'll still be cruising around.

sugarloaf-as far as mountains go this one is probably my favorite terrain on the east coast. its a long drive for a day trip. weather sucks, i wish upper mt. was all t-bars.

mt. abram-wicked fun when the snow is good. a couple of pretty steep little shots. cheap and real.

shawnee- great night skiing, great pitch, awesome bar.

agemeticus-pretty fun backyard skiing after an epic coastal dump. (they plow the road up real good so you can even shuttle)

1- Sunday River (been there a ton so I know the mountain and the area pretty well. I hear you guys on the complaints about traversing and everything, but once you figure the mountain out it's not bad at all....good variety there, plus it's closer than SL)
2-Sugarloaf ( Again, would be #1 if it was a bit closer.....as it was I had trouble deciding)
3- Camden Snow Bowl (only been there once, but it's pretty sick to ski and have an ocean view, least i thought it was.

Never skied saddleback, but I will this year.....they got dumped on last year...seemed like every time I'd go up to SR or SL they'd catch more snow than either SR or SL did from the same storm system by quite a bit. And I've heard theres some good terrain there as well :daffy:

Saddleback
Sugarloaf
Sunday River

I would reverse order on Saddleback and Sugarloaf with the backside open.

Backside is nice, but makes for a heck of a lot of traverse out. Of course the ride out to muleskinner is a haul, but still better liftserved than the backside.

I've only skied Sugarloaf, SR and Saddleback in ME.

1, Sugarloaf for the size and terrain. (although it left a very sour taste in my mouth when my Pocket Rockets and Freerides were ripped off there last season on my birthday!)

2, Saddleback, Fun, nice terrain, good natural snow trails and glades. Our first and only time there was last Feb. we skied there 2 days in a row. Their snowmaking on the top is pretty bad, unless you like ice. It would be nice to have a sit-down type of lift to the top. We had a great time there and I wish we stayed there instead of going to Sugarloaf. (see above.)

3, Sunday River, Again, nice terrain, but I don't love the way it's stretched out for so long along the ridge. Would be fine if there was more vert. I haven't skied there in about 7 years.
