Why not it's something to do.

I read that there are 40+ ski areas in NYS. I’ve only been to 6, but I kinda think I’m not missing much with the other 35 or so. Set me straight if I’m wrong.

Tuxedo Ridge (Not a bad ski area at all, just not big enough for me to rate higher).

You skied Rocking Horse Ranch!!?!?!?!?

How'd your Dad take the news... :)

Well that was when I was in 7th grade...and me and my family went there and I lapped the rope tow hill while my parents and my sister rode horses. We went there for three days over New Years..1991/92..the rentals they had were the old school ones with safety straps..not the mad steezy step ins like Blue mountain had..I remember them having a pretty sweet arcade as well..

I've only skied 2.5 NY ski areas (the 1/2 being Catamount). Here's my list:

  1. Hunter
  2. Gore (skied Gore only once on a terrible day; will likely top Hunter under the right conditions)
  3. Catamount
Hope to add Whiteface to the list this season.

You beat me to it, that's pretty much exaclty what I was going to say. Well the part about Gore anyway. I wasn't even going to count Catamount, but I guess it does...

These are the only places that I've skied in NY (but I think I would probably agree with HPD's statement on "the other 35 or so" if I did ski all of NY. I like the BIGGER mountains, what can I say?)

Whiteface
Gore
Holiday Valley
Bristol Mountain
Swain
Northampton Park (just kidding)

I've skied in NY probably 75% of the 28 years I've been skiing, but I've spent about 90% of that time at Whiteface (and 8% of the rest at Gore)....

Whiteface
Gore
Greek Peak
West
Mt. Whitney

What can I say? Whiteface has enough to keep me busy and interested run after run, day after day, season after season.

Or I'm a shut in.

Forgot about Big Tupper. That would be up there if it were to reopen. I love the cathedral style hall chairlift.
