Trails(s) Hiked: Bald Peak Trail and North Peak Trail

Total Distance: Approx 4 miles

Difficulty: Moderate

Conditions: Sunny and pretty hot - upper 80's & humid

Trip Report: Had a nice day with my 2 boys up on Pleasant Mountain area. We hiked up the bald peak trail. The trialhead had a nice sign board with a pleasant mountain map. I think this area is now a managed area by the Loon Echo Land Trust and they are doing a nice job maintaining the trials.

The Bald peak trail is a fairly steep climb. About 1500 feet in elevation in about a mile. Once to the top the views were outstanding, although the day was quite hazy. There was a super breeze that cooled us off. We hiked over to the top of North peak and poked around the shawnee peak ski area a bit. It certainly looks different in the summer! We ski a lot there in the winter and it was interesting to see all the boulders that are covered over by snow.

We came down a ski trail next to the east side chair lifts so we would be closer to our car. That wasn't as much fun... as we were tromping downhill through grass via no established trial thus the footholds were not great. We probably should have come down a more established trail.

Overall fun and a great half day climb.

They had just completed some road ditch work and we were able to park just on the side of the road by the trailhead. One could easily park in the East Lodge parking lot for Shawnee Peak as it is only a quarter of a mile away or so.
