What a beautiful day, huh?
I stepped outside and couldn't believe I was heading to work instead of heading to the mountains. Oh wait, I am already in the mountains! 8) Post work hike was swirling around in my brain, but where or where to go on a glorious afternoon?
I decided to head towards my favorite playground, Franconia Notch. Views of Cannon and The Kinsman Ridge were great driving down I93. Coming off the parkway, felt like I was coming home. After taking care of some business at The Sill, I practically ran up the trail to Bald Rock, with the sun fading fast, stopping to snag a quick shot of Cannon which did not come out well due to low light.
At the summit of Bald Rock, I enountered a school bus load worth of kids and a sunless-horizon that was still lit up pretty well despite missing the beginnings of the real Greatest Show on Earth. I sat watching the myriad of lights and colors for about an hour as light faded a way. Headlamp and flashlight were utilized for the decent, but there was still barely enough visiblity in the trees to make one's way without needing a light source. One of my favorite 15 minute summits.
