You bumps skiers would have had a blast. Soft and sweet spring conditions. Plenty of base, all the blacks were bumped up to some extent or another, and the glades were open. Temps were in the upper 50s and low 60s I'd estimate, lots of kids out there in tshirts. Here's a sampling: Ontereo (top to bottom, wall to wall bumps, fantastic); Utsayantha (I've never seen it with a better base); upper Winisook (skier's left bumped up, right side of the fork slightly bumped); upper Tongora, Seneca and Yahoo bumped up as usual (the whale on top of Yahoo was a rush); Belleayre run (skier's left bumped top to bottom); even normally flat blacks like Peekamoose, Algonguin, Dot and skier's right on Belleayre had smaller, more spaced bumps. The glades (Winisook, Belleayre and Chippewa) were sticky in the morning but the traffic actually improved the surface as the day progressed and even bumped them up nicely with an excellent base (i.e. no stones dinging up my bases at all). The flat blues like Pepacton, Dot, Tongora and Peekamoose enticed me to open up the throttle and sink the edges in at high speed, a carver's paradise. Saturday saw more traffic, but on Sunday we had some trails literally to ourselves, and no lift lines. Upper Area 51 was roped off but the lower portion appeared to be open. The waterfalls around the mountain were flowing (e.g along Ashokan and near Superchief lift). On Saturday there was a d.j on the deck, people were dancing on the tables, and somebody was flying a large R.C. helicopter around taking aerial pics of the party, then displayed them on his laptop. Sunday on the deck had a live band playing mellower tunes. What a weekend of fine spring skiing, totally satisfying. My legs are shot.
