Today was my first visit back to Berkshire East in over 10 years and I must say it is really a nice place to ski. We arrived at the ski area at 9:30am after driving up from Bridgeport in a little more than two hours, and the drive was quite pleasant with interstate highway for 90% of the trip.

My first few runs were with my son and we skied Outback to Exhibition and the conditions were packed powder and groomed snow. Next we skied Mohwawk to Roys way and again the snow surface was a nice packed powder with some hard pack in spots. Big Chief was also in similar shape with very few people on any of the above mentioned trails.

My son took a one hour lesson and that gave me time to explore the steeper parts of the mountain. Jug was bumped up and on the thin side on the upper part of the trail. Flying Cloud had good cover with some icy spots just below the top of the double chair. U Mass was my favorite trail with small bumps and some thin cover. Grizzly and Minnie Dole were also fun with some thin areas to ski around.

Basically the natural snow trails are OKAY, but they are getting skied/scraped off quickly, so rock skis would be a good idea for next week on the steeper trails unless there is more snowfall. The mountain has an amazing amount of variety for 1,180 vertical.
Lift lines were virually non-existent before about 1pm, and even then they were 5 minutes at best for the summit triple, the double chair was not in operation today.

The snowmaking trails have PLENTY of cover and skiing until Easter will be no problem for this place. I will definately be visiting the area again next season.

Glad you made it up there. Did you ski off the quad at all? That's a great area for your son.

Sorry for the late reply as I just got back from working in Manhattan. Yes I did ski alot yesterday with my son on the new quad lift. We took three runs down Outback and two runs on Exhibition. My son really liked Mohawk and especially Roy's Way. This was his first ski day without a single fall.

I just posted 8 pictures of the mountain/trails from yesterday in the gallery. The Port Jefferson ferry has a day trip to Mt Snow next saturday, the last of the season, and I just might go with my son.

The Port Jefferson ferry runs there ski by sea packages during the winter months and this year the trips are all to Mt Snow with the exception of this weekends overnight trip to Stowe. Next weekend's trip (March 12th) is the last weekend trip of the season. The trip cost is $68 and includes lift ticket, motor coach transportation from Bridgeport, and round trip transportation on the ferry from Port Jefferson.

I have never been on one of the ski trips before, but it seems like a good value for the money. If you want more information visit the ferry website at www.bpjferry.com and click on the trips header.

Great pics! Looks like the conditions are much improved from my last visit with the AZers. Great hill. Jug looks in fine shape. Did you ski the upper portion of Minnie Dole (right off the triple)? I love that section.

Yes I did ski the top portion of Minnie Dole right of the top of the lift. I guess that portion of the trail faces south, because the sun was starting to burn through the snow cover and expose a few rocks as the day went on.

I think that the trails could be a little better marked, especially for someone who does not know the area, but exploration made the skiing more exciting than knowing your every turn.
