best place to go x-mas week

I know that everywhere will be crowded but was hoping maybe for something not as bad as the big places, will have a brand new skier with us possibly but would still like some challenging stuff too, with 3 hrs of Boston Ma

most likely daytripping, looking for somewhere friendly to beginners but alos with some challenging stuff so when the nephew goes for a lesson we can go let em run, blues and greens fine for us, hoping to have him on bigger greens by the end of the week, gonna try to go 3 times, maybe an overnight, still not sure yet

The key to any place is to ski stuff in order. Get there first thing and ski the lower mountain, then move to the out of the way lifts and return to the heavily skied trails in the late afternoon, when things start thinning out. You can avoid a lot of the crowds if you do that.

Having said that, of the big Vermont mountains it seems like Sugarbush is better for avoiding the huge crowds than Killington or Stowe.

i started a thread called "my list" about a week or so ago. It's got my top picks for least crowds. gotta go catch some pow. enjoy!

I agree. Cannon will be relatively uncrowded and has terrain that will keep everyone in your group satisfied. Both places have beginner areas away from the rest of the mountain making it nice for new skiers. Burke is about 45 mins past Cannon but will have less crowds. Either place is a good choice.

I'd drive the extra half hour to the Bush. They will be 100% open (already are at South). They obviously have challenging terrain, as we've discussed over and over again on this board.
Northern VT pretty much always has the best snow in New England and has the best terrain hands down.

Best place to go for Christmas holiday is ... the carribean. But if you want to go skiing in New England northern Vermont has the best snow. New Hampshire gets about half the snow that Vermont gets. And Stowe and the Mad River Valley have the best restaurants.
