I'll second the recommendation for Aspen, though it's not going to be as cheap to ski or fly to as SLC. If you're just looking for convenience to the slopes, shops and restaurants when you get there, Aspen beats everyone hands down. Free, frequent buses to all the ski areas in town, and all commercial activity in downtown Aspen is easily within walking distance of anywhere in town.

Ditto Utah, but an often overlooked spot is Ogden. We stayed there at the Marriott downtown last year on a ski special for two that included breakfast, lift tickets, bus to Snowbasin or Powder Mountain, even two new pairs of good Scott goggles, for real short money. They said that essentially you got the room for nothing. Ogden had some good restaurants to boot.

Ditto on Ogden. The Marriott is a nice hotel and Roosters is a great Brew Pub just a block away. Plus, Snowbasin is an outstanding resort. Park Silly is also great and the bus system runs between all three resorts.

Agree with the Snowbasin call. I've always been amazed at how overlooked Snowbasin is. I disagree with your call on Park City though. It's kinda like the Okemo of Utah. Not really what you go out west for. To each his own I guess. The town of Park City is a lot of fun though. Sundance is a blast.

same here except we stayed at the Hampton Inn. we didn't do a "ski package" deal but did get good discounted lift ticket prices @ the hotel.
