What do you guys think will have the best skiing for Thanksgiving Weekend. I'm hoping to get some turns in. I have an ASC pass, but I'm not married to it.

Best bets for early season snow:

Killington
Okemo - I have skied there many times on Thanksgiving
Stratton - Skied there on Thansgiving as well
Hunter Mountain
Belleayre
Jimminy Peak

Sunday River would be a long drive for just a few trails on Thanksgiving and you would probably be driving past resorts that had just as much snow.

Last year Whiteface has a full 2400 vert going with a couple different options from the top by Thanksgiving weekend. Youll be hardpressed to find that kind of vert anywhere else.

One of my best days last year was thanksgiving at kmart. Snowed all day and I had the place to myself. I love skiing thanksgiving and christmas, the resorts spend serious resources getting ready for the holiday week/weekend and I get it all to myself for one day.

With that said I would wait a little longer to book and then check the trip reports. If you can wait that long I'll be putting up a report from kmart on thanksgiving night.

Thanksgiving is a real hard one to call. Last few years I've been at K and it's been anything from iced up bumps to sweet pow. Last two years have been nice though. Bottom line, that time of year is very hard to predict.

Last Thanksgiving weekend we spent one day at Killington and one at Sugarbush (only Mt. Ellen was open, and not all of that). K was more open, but the Bush had nicer conditions on top -- a bit of new snow overnight, continuing into the day. The bottom of the mountain was dicey, but they had snowmaking going on a few highways to the base.

We did one day at Sunday River last November, around the 15th, before Thanksgiving. Conditions were OK. I think only Barker and Spruce peaks were open.

This Thanksgiving we will be in South Carolina. :-o

if you already have the asc pass and are not effected by blackouts, i could think of no better place than kmart for early season in terms of number of trails open and artificial snow coverage. if you are looking to avoid the crowds or if natural snow is in the forecast, i can think of several better.

If lodging is part of the trip, don't get stuck like last year. Killington will most likely have the most terrain open.

I didn't get stuck last year. I was staying for free at the Attitash Grand from a contest I won. I hear ya, though. I want to figure out what my friends want to do quick and book.

Your best bet is probably to position yourself between Okemo and Killington. I did this for alot of Thanksgiving weekends.

We usually stayed in the Best Western in Ludlow.

Beano, when it come to free time.... money is not as important as what you do with the free time.(Well thats my approach) I think we are on the same page here.

A free stay at Attitash would not be fun for me unless I was able to ski there. I only have so much vacation time. I'm catching a show or making turns unless I have a family obligation on vacation.
