Best ski resort/mountain by state...

I thought this would be interesting. I know this is predominantly a NE board but let's expand our horizons (I have not skied all of these and some are my best guesses from reading other reviews; some are my opinions). I also posted this on an Epic Ski forum:

East

NH - Cannon
VT - Stowe
NY - Whiteface
MA - Jiminy Peak
CT - Mohawk
NJ - Mountain Creek (my home mountain )
WV - Snoeshoe
PA - Blue Knob


West

CA - Heavenly
CO - Vail
UT - Snowbird
MT - Big Sky
WY - Jackson Hole
NM - Taos

Canada

East - Tremblant
West - Whistler/Blackomb

That's about it. Sorry mid-westerners but I have only skied once in Southern Michigan and it was nothing memorable. Any major errors or omissions? I look forward to the responses.

We were in Sandusky Ohio for a week and ventured near Detroit one day. I think it was called Alpine Valley. Decent but nothing special. I hear the Boynes are actually quite good.

I live 30 miles west of Detroit and nothing is very impressive around here but the is one place called Mt holly wich is 60 miles north of Detroit that is not very big (350' vert) but they do have a HSQ it takes around 45sec. to 1 min to get to the top. We may not have big ski hills but Cedar point is only 2 hours away.

I agree with everything except for vermont becuase i think sugarbush is the best, i would probably think MRG but i have never skiied there, and for nh i think it is really close between wildcat and cannon, but i like wildcat a lil more. I like the mountains the same but wildcat gets more snow.

i agree with cannon and sugarloaf for NH and ME but disagree with VT and MA which i would say would be MRG and berkshire east respectively. haven't skied any other states.

I think for off piste skiing, nothing compares to Stowe anywhere is VT. Real chutes not found anywhere else but the whites.

Also for eastern canada i wouldnt agree with tremblant, i never skiied anywhere else in that area, but i really didnt like tremblant, mount sainte anne and le massif look alot better, but im not sure because i never been there.

PA - Blue Knob
I've skied Blue Knob and I think that you may change your opinion after you ski Elk Mountain next week.
We haven't had a lot of natural snow this year so the moguls are not what they usually are this time of year at Elk, but that is probably true of Blue Knob this year as well. All things being equal, I think that Elk is the best in PA.

Unless of course you consider the skiing in Narragansett Bay.

I don't think Heavenly is the best in California for skiing. Best views perhaps.

Mammoth and Squaw both offer much more variety to a broad spectrum of skiers than Heavenly.

Great poll. Man you've skied around. Your East picks are right on for my taste, although I must admit I've never skied in Maine and no reason to ski in Conn, NJ, etc.

In the West I'd change Vail to Copper.

East - Tremblant or St. Anne. Massif was really fun, but just not big enough to rate up there with the big boys. Although I haven't been to Massif in 10 years, and I've heard alot has changed!

Cahleeefornia - Squawlywood, but Alpine Meadows and Kirkwood rock too

NV - Mount Rose, and the backcountry around it
