I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of this stuff. Like your every move isn't documented anyway between store discount cards, credit cards, security cameras, etc.....

"Scofflaw or other violation,"

Back in my day, we didn't use fancy computer recognition. We called it in, and played with the onions we wore on our belts, which was the fashion of the day.

This is just efficient and not really invasive. It's your license plate after all. If I have to register my car so does the next guy. And if some jacka$$ steals my car, I hope he gets caught. I think you share a lot more about yourself everytime you use your credit card.

I have no need to fear with the government looking at me, I am a law abiding citizen(almost ;) ) but have always had a fear in the government having too much power and control (1984, Brave New World, Kafka, etc..) However, your statement does put things in the right perspective with this.

While I don't really disagree with you, you hit two scary attitudes- the "If you ahven't done anything wrong you have nothing to worry about" and the "It's not as bad as some other things we already have" attitudes. I know, I know, "slippery slope" is a bad debate device, but still, I don't like it.

Seriously, in this day and age, if you play by the rules, what's the big deal. If you're not playing by the rules, well then you should get what's coming to you.

*nod*

Civil liberties are loosely defined, at best.

Slippery Slope is a kind definition . Our Civil Liberties are precious and should not be subject to unegotiated abrogation for sake of govewrnmental convienience. Our forebearers fought long and hard that we may enjoy our freedom and pursuit of happiness

But, what if it's good for the children, you do care about the children don't you? And what about terrorism, we have to take care of that!

Andy Your questions are rhetorical > of course No one wants any harm done to ANYONE but especially children .

However IMO ends doesn't justify the means especially if determined Unilatrerally . The harm that could be potentially done with the best of intention infact could outweigh the benefit intended -- but then again thats opinion

I think we're discussing government-issued license plates that were meant to be seen by the police in the first place. This approach frees them up to do their real jobs. This isn't even close to tapping phone lines. Hopefully, the system is accurate and they verify information before pulling people over. Frankly, lots of other gov't agencies (and private organizations) should try to work this efficiently. The EZpass concept is more to worry about in this case. Now a gadget in your car is tied to a bank account which reports to credit bureaus. A quick pass past a detector and they know a lot about you.
