Just a quick belated report for the record: On Tuesday as the storm wound down with about a foot of fresh and not too wet snow, I skinned my local NELSAP hill, Big Red. The open slopes were slabbed and the wind was still howling straight up out of the Merrimack valley at I would estimate at 40+ so those weren't too skiable - in fact I never even made it to one part that I knew from a scouting mission had been mowed (with some brambles cleared). Runs of the day were on newly cleared and marked trails in the adjoining Riverbend conservation area (town-owned). The snow had enough substance to it that the woods were reasonably skiable, and it's beautiful land, with lines ending alongside a tributary of the Merrimack River.
We're only talking around 150' of vert here so this isn't going to be a long-distance destination, but I like having it 5 minutes away. If I don't head north again tomorrow I'll try to hit this again when temps warm and the surface should be more springlike.
A couple photos to come later.
Oh yeah, and I had this place entirely to myself. Far cry from Bretton Woods yesterday (report on that upcoming).
And it was good skinning practice, the most I've done yet. I feel I'm starting to get the hang of it now.
