Blue Hills opened today and I went to pick up my pass for racing and I skied for about 2 1/2 hours. They had the Big Blue slope open as well as the magic carpet area. The base depths are pretty deep with probably 2 to 3 feet of snow. The conditions were surpisingly good with some soft manmade snow over a "firm" base. I hit very little ice though. The liftlines were approximately 5 minutes but the trail was uncrowded because most people seemed to be in the park...the park area was pretty beat up by the end of the day. Overall, it was fun to get back on skis! :snow: :snow: In addition, they seemed to have started snowmaking on the "Patriots Path" trail. All in all, Blue hills is a decent small ski area that serves its purpose as a feeder hill.

Hey LonghornSkier - What happened to your football team this season?

I was up in the Blue Hills hiking and was going to post a trail report. Yeah, I agree I hiked over to the ski slope and was pretty impressed by the depths. Crowds didn't look too bad when I looked down the main trail - nice pitch at the top. Good to see you back on the slopes.

A great day, given it's proximity to Boston, terrain and views - the Blue Hill reservation is a real resource for people in Boston and south of the City. Ended up hiking for about 3 hours essentially the western half of the reservation. There's a tower at the summit open to the public which provided some great views.
