From Ski Press Magazine:

"Bolton Valley resort will be borrowing from the $650,000 community development grant the town of Bolton just received to build new lifts, additional lighting and snowmaking in order to open up the expansive Vista Bowl. “Dances with Trees,” 20 acres of natural, open glades, will also become more accessible to skiers and riders with these new developments."

Good to hear. Bolton is a nice place.

Bolton is another hidden gem...lots of snow and great views. They get dumped on...really they do...Lake Champlain is right there and helps out a ton  The downside is it is a bit shopworn and the lifts are slow. The access road is also steep and can be tricky, but quiet, downhome place with some great terrain. Did I mention that the DesLauriers Extreme Duo got their start here? Their dad owned and built the place...I've only night skied here, but their OB and upper mountains have some great stuff.

Would like to see them in the AZ challenge

Update: I was just haunting another forum and saw that Bolton broke ground on the new lift the other day...looks like a new HSQ for them will replace the two doubles it took one to get from the base to the Vista Summit (where the night skiing operations are). The website has a pic in the banner of an HSQ...so that's what I assume is going in. They're replacing a Hall Double (like Burke) as well as an old POMA Double. I'd be interested in trying it out this season

Here is their website with the announcment.

Now if they could get an interstate exit in Bolton.

That would certainly be welcome. The real bear though is the access road. It's the sketchiest I've ever driven in the Northeast and not very well maintained.

I do enjoy Bolton, its a fun little hill. I hope they continue to put $20 midweek lift ticket coupons in Seven Days next winter.

Wow! Saw that! The thing that is kind of misleading is that on the webpage/homepage there is picture of a high speed quad. Kind of deceiving... :-?

I was just about to say how that pic was very decieving, unless the terminals will look like a HSQ, and it really wont be(I think i saw that somewhere :-? )

edit: snowbasin has a double with a hsq looking terminal... i think, never been there but thats what it looks like to me

Interestingly enough that pic of a HSQ base terminal has since disappeared from the website...

UPDATE: Some footage on the WCAX news and in the Free Press regarding the latest work--lifting the towers into place using a helicopter. Some good pics are on their website.

HERE is the article from the Burlington Free Press

The article states that the new lift will be 4,000 feet long and will require an 11-minute ride. Pictures suggest maybe an 'upside down' configuration with the motor at the top maybe... :-?

I've only been there once.

It was after a 3' overnight dump.
That was after a 2' all day dump. (I was at Smuggs that day. :D )

They were saying that would be the last day of operation, because they had planned it that way.

The passholders were going crazy.

They stayed open for one more week. (It was the middle of March.)

I went to their site to see if I could see where I skied, but their map sucks.

Also, I was speaking with one of their regulars a couple weeks ago and he said that they were pulling out an upper lift to put in the quad. His fear is that it will be a lot worse, with everyone having to go to the bottom, every run.
