a buddy of mine will be in B'town all weekend and wants to head north into NH for some skiing, then head back to Long Island Monday night....any suggestions? He'll goto VT too, but seems straight up 93 will be his best bet

2 hours to waterville, loon, and cannon. 3 hours gets you burke, wildcat, attitash, cranmore, black. somewhere in between gets you bretton. the other consideration is the drive home. 93 angles east as you head south, so it would probably be easier for you to come back down 91 which angles more to the west heading south. in other words, it would be a shorter drive home to NY from a VT area most likely. cannon and burke would be the easiest shots to get back down 91, but it would still take 70-80 miles just to get to the 89/91 split. whereas heading north 93 to 89 to almost any VT ski area is 3 hours.

if you are looking to try out some new areas you haven't skied before or a short drive from boston, go for NH. if you are concerned about the ride back, stick with VT. my personal preference would be cannon, wildcat, or burke (especially on a weekend), but my preferences speak for themselves, lol. you could hit the bush almost as quick as wildcat and save two hours driving home.

You can get to Mt Snow or Stratton in about 2.5 hours from Boston and have an easy ride back to NY (if that's a big consideration here). RT 2 to 91 to Brattleboro.

Not knowning what type of skier he is i would suggest cannon.

Easily accessable with a short drive time if he is heading all the back to ny after skiing. Also decent terrain, moderate prices and not generally overcrowded.

The problem with Wildcat is the drive, its the same distance from boston as cannon but takes signifigantly longer to get there with more aggrivation.

A little flatter, but always in good shape and close to Boston (just about 2 hours):
