The last 2 weeks, I've been checking the SB and MRG ski reports, with about 3 feet of new snow during that time and all of the reports of "awesome powder conditions". Well, this weekend, it's my turn. However, instead of 2 more feet of snow, I get this forecast for Waitsfield:

Sunday: AM Showers, PM Sun. High 51.
Monday: Heavy Rain developing. High 46.

I'm still optimistic about Sunday. Hopefully, it's just small showers and the sun will come out in time to save most of my day. However, it seems my day at MRG is all but wrecked. If it rains this much, a place like MRG, with all of its natural snow, is going to get wrecked the exact day I go. VT NWS is calling for 1-2" of rain Monday. My first day at Waterville got pretty much wrecked by the rain. Here I Go Again, to quote Whitesnake.

You certainly could have come up to SB last week or the week before, but you would have been hiking due to wind holds.

You do know that MRG is hosting North America's largest Telemark Festival this weekend, right?

I love windhold. Hiking is easy and there were plenty of lifts running to get you most of the way there. Castlerock isn't a clearcut either, which is why it was spinning. The liftlines at the Rock were also shorter than a normal weekend on the Single.

Windhold gives you two powder days for the price of one storm too. March Forth!

Going to miss it this year :(

But my crew from Hunter will be up and partying! I'll be the only one telemarking at home this weekend...

AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Just 16 hours before I arrive, they announce Castlerock and Slide Brook will be closed. EFF YOU SUGARBUSH! Seriously, how do they lose that much snow in one day when MRG is still going strong?

Heard in the MRV site that they were shoveling snow onto one run at Castlerock on Thursday or so. It is 50 F up here or so and Castlerock, all natural snow, has a SE exposure. Thin natural snow, warm temps, lots of sun and traffic = lots of melt. As for why the Slidebrook Express is not running, that is beyond me. It seems like they spend more time bi%^&ng about it then running it.

And now it gets worse.

MRG has decided to suspend midweek operations. I doubt I'll be going up now.

have you seen any first hand reports from MRG lately? it's UGLY. plus they are not operating mid-week (sucks for me, i still have three passes from my mad card to use - but you won't see me bitching, themz the breakz). there is AMPLE reason for castlerock to be closed. same with slide brook as skier visits drop. they don't run slide brook when there are not a lot of skiers on the mountain, that is why they don't run it mid-week. sucks, i have missed out on the slide brook when skiing mid-week myself. but like i said, themz the breakz.
