Forecast bust on high temps today, for sure. When I checked at noon it was 25F at the base of MRG (my thwarted plan for "corn harvest" today) and 29F at the base of Magic. Even down here near the coast in MA it was ... not warm.

I woke up at 6 and it was 25 in Southern NH and very windy...felt like Mid January. Went back and forth about whether Cannon would be worth the drive. Had concerns about possible wind holds given the higher summitts forecast had highs in the 20s with wind gusts approaching 50 mph. Thought maybe I could start the drive to Cannon and if upper mtn lifts were on wind hold maybe continue on up to B Woods. In the end decided to bag it all together---I've had enough icy groomer days that 3.5 hrs of driving for possible skating rink in April didn;t seem too appealing to go it solo.
Sorry you had a tough day but guess I didn't miss much.

I went to Cannon, and it was icy as well. Made even worse by the fact that my edges are pretty dull because I expect to be on soft snow this time of year. One of the most frustrating days I have ever skied as the sun was out, the mountain was buried with snow, but it was just too cold, and in the middle of April of all days. At least the scenery was spectacular.

I was also here today, it was not good. At about 3pm I overshot an entire landing in Coos. Knee done. Being taken down in the meat wagon sucks.

That sucks conwayeast. What's the damage?

Lots of folks here have blown out their knees. I'm sure many would be more than willing to give advice on rehab.

Not sure full extent yet. Lower part of my left leg feels not so much attached anymore. Xrays came back negative, but have to wait 5-10 days to see an Orthopedic Specialist and get an MRI. The results of those tests should be interesting.

If anyone has any advice or recommendations I'd love to hear them.

Sounds like you might have pulled one of the ligament or muscle. Any swelling anywhere?

RICE: rest/ice/?/elevate. Take a couple ibprofen. Wait for your appointment with the ortho and MRI

Sorry to hear about your knee, if you did tear your ACL, it isn't the end of the world, or your skiing. It's been 19 yrs since I've had mine reconstructed, patella graft. It will never be "normal", but it has been good. Never wore a brace, did tweak it about 4 yrs ago, couldn't staighten that leg all the way, and was trying to hike on it, what a maroon, essentially one leg was shorter than the other. After a while, the knee was the least painful part of my leg, shin splints, tight hammie. I stopped doing weight baring exercises, and it straightend itself out, no pun intended. Good luck, better than injury at the start of the season, that would suck. You should be good to go by next season, even if there is major damage. Knees are weird friggin joints, just two, or three, I guess, bones coming together. Strengthening the surrounding muscles helps, strong quads. I've been swimming with fitness fins and a kickboard since tweaking mine, seems to help a lot.

That's positive. You still could obviously have some damage to ligaments or the meniscus, but having no bone damage is a very good thing. It's not uncommon for people to fracture the tib plateau in conjunction with major ligament tears, which can lengthen recovery time and also present greater risk of complications down the road (arthritis).

Thanks Cornhead. Its comforting knowing that with the advances in technology & modern medicine that knee injuries don't really prevent people from returning to what they love to do: snowboarding, skiing, football, soccer. These days knee injuries are just far too common. You'd think for a joint that supports your whole body it would have been built a little better! Amazing what the human body is capable of nonetheless.

Probably one of the worst injuries I have ever seen. And he still plays!

Frozen mess. The groomed trails were fine but anything ungroomed never softened up. Not much else to say...
Seems like a common theme this season...we could use warmer weather to soften things up but by the time that happens most ski areas will close up shop due to lack of paying customers.

Ouch, my knee hurt just watching that. Mine bent sideways, it wasn't ski related, basketball. A buddy of mine put a hoop up on his garage, it was the 4th of July, we were playing 3 on 3, I went up for a rebound, my buddy's brother shoved me in the back, I came down on one leg, that leg bent sideways. He didn't really know any better, non-athlete.

Yes, it is amazing that anyone could play again after that injury, treatment has come a long way. Look at Adrian Peterson, he almost broke the rushing record after having his blown out. Of course, he is a freak of nature. You'll be fine, do what the doc says, and be faithful with your rehab. If you did tear your ACL, it'll never be the same, but it should be good enough to let you do what you want. I used to play racquetball after mine was reconstructed. I had no problem cutting, and moving forward and back, but I can remember hitting overhead shots, when the twisting of my body would reach my knee, my knee would remind me that it wasn't willing to twist like that anymore. Good luck.
