By the time I got back to Lyndonville after all of the Christmas activities I was REALLY jonesing to hit the slopes. Especially after waking up to 3 inches of snow in Williamstown. As I was leaving my apartment to head to the mountain the rain started changing over to snow. Unfortunately that didn't last very long and while I was at the mtn it turned back to a misty rain. I parked at the Sherburne base as I wanted to check out he coverage on the lower portion of the mountain from the HSQ. There was a lot of brown and the trails that had snow on them were connected by a groomer width path of snow in a few places. They have really been stretching their snow :-o . Got off the HSQ and hit the WSQ (Wicked Slow Quad) to the summit. hit Upper Willoughby Lower > Bear Den > Lower Warrens Way for the first run. The remaining runs would be variations of this with the Shoot, Upper Bear Den and the full length of Lower Warrens Way thrown in.
The snow quality was good. On top there was about 4 inches of wet snow left that had been pushed around a lot on the open trails. The man made base was a hard pack corn that wasn't too bad to deal with since it was above freezing. I got some great high speed runs in since there were probably only 50 people on the upper mtn. I skied for a 2 hours before the poor light, fog, and bordom finally had me call it a day.
Looks like some good snow this morning.
Here's to more open terrain this weekend
Sorry no pics :???:
