2007-2008 Report # : 15
Trip Report: What a great day. Despite getting a late start (I awoke 30 minutes late), I managed to get to the mountain at 8:45 and was on the chair in 15 minutes. Things were groomed up very well…and the piste selection was excellent and skiing like days when I was a kid—old school terrain with modern grooming is fun.
First run was down Dipper all the way. Wow. As I had said, the groomers did wonders. The cover was good and the snow was great.
Next run was down East Bowl, which I had seen had been groomed. Wow. ROTD. The groomers had done a good job and the dips and rolls were awesome. It was a day when me, my skis, and the conditions were all in synch.
I did a spin down Willoughby to find more edge-to-edge grooming and great snow.
When I got to the Quad, I ran into Peggy, one of the ‘Dawn Patrol’ regulars and her extended family. For the next couple hours we skied together. Nice folks. During that time, we skied Dippers/Powderhorn, Carriage Road, Big and Little Dipper (or “Twin Dipper” as I was informed  ), Willoughby and a sketchy Meadows, and East Bowl a couple times.
I ran into MK, another “Dawn Patrol” regular and we skied Powderhorn/Dipper Doodle before taking a spin down East Bowl.
At this point, I took lunch and ran into ML, a classmate of mine in high school. I also ran into AB, another classmate of mine. We took a couple spins together…hitting Wilderness and Powderhorn and then East Bowl. Wilderness was OK, frozen bumps that were edgeable with some powder thrown on top. AB had a hard time in it, but ML, who was up from NYC handled the bumps fairly well. I made good work of them. We then cut off Powderhorn and hit Dippers for some high speed turns.
Last run, as mentioned, was East Bowl which was a blast. We ripped down it…with me finding it a bit more icy in places than before.
By now it was 2pm or so and I had to go in for après ski with a friend. We had a great time and then AB and ML came by and we hung out longer. I got an up-close view of the new groomer…it is a Prinoth Bison. The head maintenance director was raving about it….and saying that they hope to get a winch cat soon.
A great day…more tomorrow.
Oh yeah...bought my Burke Limited Edition Pint Glass and vintage logo hat. Although the hats say, "Ski Burke Mt. East Burk, VT"
