Word on the street is that today the new lift is spinning after lunch. They will start with the willoughby in the morning and then move onto the new one. This was the plan yesterday.

Yesterday the riding was pretty good with that 3 inches or so of heavy, catchy snow which went well over the WROD. The mt was open T2B, I even poached lower willoughby which was closed and with grass poking through the powder but rode excellent and never scraped the board once. Its amazing how much of a difference three inches is to the overall riding experience. Last night got down close to zero degrees so I expect today to be absolutely bomb-proof and not good. Hopefully we get some more pow soon and life will be happy again.

I hope that they can get another route off the top open. I see they are going to Dipper's next. Did they regrade the upper part this summer?

The new lift is sweet! I was on chair 6 or 7 when they opened it up at noon. There was barely a line at the launch. Then there was NO line the rest of the day. Of course it was just a single run off the summit and it was cold but it was fun. It was such a speed difference even though they were only running it at 3/4 speed (They have to slowly phase in the top speed of 1000+ ft/sec). At today's 750-800 ft/sec, the new lift is soooo much faster than the Willoughby quad and you were actually passing people riding the Poma! Report and pictures once I'm done with Chrismas stuff.

Bump. Burke got its Act 250 Approval for the next phase of development, which is the 32-lot subdivision at MidBurke and other work:

[FONT=Verdana, Times New Roman, Times, Serif]EAST BURKE -- A Land Use Permit was granted to Burke 2000 LLC, the Burke Mountain resort, for its planned 32 unit residential development, part of a long-term, multi-phase residential expansion at the mountain.
In a decision issued this week by the District Environmental Commission #7 of the State of Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, Burke was granted a Land Use Permit Amendment for the plans to expand around the Mid-Burke Lodge area, the permit notes.
"This permit specifically authorizes a 32 lot subdivision of land, with each lot approved for construction of one single family residence, including wastewater disposal via connection to the existing permitted community wastewater disposal system to be owned by the Burke Mountain Operating Company, water supply via connection to the existing community water system," and other details, the permit specifies.
The water system is the Burke Mountain Water Company with access via Alpine Lane and High Meadows Road.
The issuance of the Land Use Permit for the plan marks the first construction permit granted for a full phase of Burke's long-awaited development of the resort. There are plans for other residential developments and resort amenities in the future, which will be added in stages, the resort's management said earlier.
Kirsten Sultan, the Act 250 District Coordinator for the District No. 7 Environmental Commission, said Friday that the approval of the 32-lot subdivision is part of the permit process for the Burke Mountain Master Plan for its development.
Earlier, Burke Mountain was given permission by the Commission, Sultan said, to construct a model home as part of the now approved 32-lot subdivision being approved at the resort. She said it was her understanding that the model home is to be constructed this spring.

[FONT=Verdana, Times New Roman, Times, Serif]The Commission, as part of the Act 250 process, had approved the master plan for the resort's development, issuing some conclusions on criterion the expansion must address, as well as partial findings on some criteria, said Sultan, but as the plans wind their way toward actual development, amendments to the Land Use Permit will be sought and considered for different facets of the expansion.
