Ski Area: Ski Butternut

Conditions: manmade powder, icy, some crud

Trip Report: Unlike the Berkshire East post from same day, Butternut was packed. The line for rentals extended out the door and down the road of the parking lot in the morning.

The slopes were pretty decent, considering the season so far, although a lot of scratching sounds could be heard from the ice under the groomed manmade snow, and as the day wore on, the middles of the slopes, as can be expected, were slippery. But you could get an edge in -- even my 5 and 7 year olds managed -- and there was good snow to be found.

The best run far and away was Nuthatch, which is designated as a slow zone but had the guns firing all morning and when they turned them off, it was yummy! Add the blue skies and a day with the kids and we were quite happy.

Despite the crowds, lift lines went quick. Thankfully they had an attendant managing the Top Flight Quad line, and so the wait was only about 10 minutes, although it looking like a Disney-at-Christmas queue at first glance.

All in all, another fine day at one of my favorite places. :D
