Does anyone think its a bad idea to buy skis at the mountain shop at Mt Snow. They offer the same demo deals as the local ski shops but offer more brands and models and its easier to demo right at the mountain. I'd love to give the business to one of my favorite local shops but they just don't offer enough different brands.

My wife demoed and bought her old Atomic 9.18 from the shop at Mt Snow. Before we bought, we called back home (Long Island) to some shops and got their pricing....Mt Snow was cheaper. Only thing that you wont get is free tunes, but I tune our gear so that wasnt an issue. We just took a pair of demo skis on a week vaco for her from a local shop here, and they applied the whole $120 demo fee back towards the ski.

If it's your "home" mountain...and the deal is reasonable...I expect the advantage is on-mountain care. Any prob with the skis, you go to the shop.

Conversely...your local shop, where they recognize you as a customer, where you develop a rapport, may get you a better "life-cycle" affect..trade ins? Discounts on the total package?

I just bought my wife new gear @ Mount Wachusett. Boots, Skis, gogles...pants for daughter *sheesh*. When I was done...the receipt was flagged with little discounts on every item. It was a good experience.

i suspect you will pay more at the mountain shops than you would else where (maybe with the exception of long island per the experience of quattro). best bet is to wait until the end of the season when everything gets discounted. there are a lot of shops surrounding the larger ski areas that will likely have better prices than the shops at the mountains.
