Got a few weeks of downtime so I went over to the shack on the Maine coast for the week. Pretty close to finishing an addition, it's on what I call the 3 year plan..

Stopped at a few small hills on the way back and on a Sat cruise we took up US 1 to check out the new Waldo-Hancock Bridge up in Bucksport. Checked out the toboggon track at Camden Hills Ski Bowl where they hold the US Nationals every year. It's really awesome, hope my little point and shoot did it justice.

It's amazing that there 6 diferent ways to get over there, all take about the same time. I had never done the Rt 25 route so I decided to go that way.Walked around Northeast Slopes ski hill on the way back.

Riv - Ashland looks like a totally awesome place to live. The village looks like it perks up abit in the summer. Awesome lakes and mountains in practically every direction. Stopped at the Riverside for some ice cream.

Camped at the state park in Camden last summer, planned on 4-5 days but extended to 7. What a geat area! We wandered around Camden Snowbowl too. Weren't the signs about wearing old clothes on the toboggan chute funny. I really would like to see people fly down that thing and out onto the ice. Bet its a riot! I think I would need to be pretty pickled to launch myself down that chute. Had a friend's kids with me and showed them how a T-bar works. The boys really were confused when I told them you don't sit on the T. I learned on one, glad I did, because I'm not sure I'd want to be figuring one out now!

Did you happen to climb to the top of Mt Battie in Camden Hills SP? Supposed to be the highest pt on the Atlantic mainland (not totally sure what that claim really means) there are some gorgeous views in all directions from up there. We also kayaked in the bay and it was fun to have the top view of where we had been.

I see from your bridge picture you were near Fort Knox too. Did you check it out? We had a blast picking through it. I think the coolest bit about that is it was built for Civil War period, but was never provided with many cannons. Good thing they weren't needed.

We spent about an hour checking out the inside of Fort Knox. Those huge cannons on wheels so they could swivel them around were amazing.

We have stayed at the Camden Hills State Park many times. already have res for the North Atlantic Blues Festival in Rockland in July. One of the nicest state parks. Despite there being a road to the top of Mt Battie my wife made me hike it the first time. Sweet views of Camden Harbor for sure.

Love Camden. We were up there last summer and I took this pic of the the snowbowl from Mt Megunticook:

No, Mt Battie is around 800ft, Megunticook right next to it is 1350. The highest on the east coast is Mt Cadillac at 1532ft on MDI.

It must have been Megunticook that I read that about... we drove up Battie and hiked up Meg...it was a bit anti-climactic to get to the true peak which had no views (except nearby trees and rocks) compared to the spot most hikers stopped with all the ocean views. I knew Cadillac was higher which made me wonder, then I realized the sign said Atlantic mainland...Cadillac is on an island. Seems like someone was just trying to make a stat fit the location.
Nice scenery from all the locations.

Anybody ever see the sunrise on Cadillac? Think it's earliest on the east coast or something like that. Did this about 10 yrs ago, pretty, but damn is it cold in the morning...even in August!

lol . . . nice technicality.

I spent a couple summers in Bar Harbor and finished a few nights of partying at Cadillac for the sunrise. And camped out one night on Champlain. Illegal, but we hiked up after dark and just slept at the top in sleeping bags and took off right after the sunrise. I'm not sure if Cadillac gets the first sun or Katahdin.
